Fiddle Hill Cottage is a beautifully constructed haven on a small Scottish Croft surrounded by nature and wildlife, and would be perfect for romantic couples or a small family seeking a peaceful retreat in the stunning Scottish Borders.

The first thing that will strike you about this lovely holiday home is the wood. Constructed by a local company that sources local trees and creates sustainable homes, the cottage looks as though it grew into its surroundings. Douglas firs form the frame of the cottage and natural logs within create a wonderfully warm and inviting ambience.

The open plan living, kitchen and dining area is absolutely stunning. Framed by big log beams and an impressive king post, the room is eclectically decorated with mismatched comfy seating, a cosy dining table, bookshelves crammed with all sorts of adventures, and a wood burner to make everything extra cosy on chilly nights. Underfloor heating ensures your toes keep toasty at all times. It is exactly what you'd hope for in a Scottish cottage in the wild, and the hosts have gone out of their way to make it as delightful as possible with furniture that blends old and new with much of it handmade.

The kitchen is equally lovely and suits the room with its wooden fronts and granite tops. It comes fully equipped for the making of feasts and if you're lucky the chickens will provide some eggs for breakfast too! The room is light and airy thanks to the south-facing floor-to-ceiling glazing which not only allows the sun to flood in but also provides a wonderful view of the surrounding wilderness.

The ground floor is also home to the bunk room which has a big solid wooden frame and an upper bunk much higher than the usual, to avoid any banging of heads below. It's perfect for friends sharing or siblings. The main bedroom is on a mezzanine above the living area and boasts a very comfortable handmade, log framed, super-king size bed with a warm wool bedding.

In the morning you can take advantage of the large walk-in rainfall shower and the complimentary toiletries, or have a lazy start in the roll top bath before breakfast. Grab a coffee and head out on to the wrap-around decking where you'll find a table for four where you can relax whilst taking in the amazing views.

The Croft has an abundance of wildflowers and grasses around its ponds that attract lots of wild birds which provide a constant and delightful cacophony of song, and there's a large variety of fruit trees and vegetables growing in the gardens too.

If you want to explore there are lost of local walks, and if you head up Fiddle Hill you might even spot a badger. If wild swimming is your thing head to Leahead loch, only four minutes away on foot, what a fabulous and bracing way to start the day!

If you fancy a pint or a meal out, Hawick is only two miles away and has plenty of great eateries to choose from and Wilton Lodge Park comes highly recommended.

Stock up at the local shops and head back to your little haven on the croft. As the sun sets get the BBQ going, open a bottle of something delicious and settle into the peaceful serenity of Fiddle Hill Cottage.
