You’ll find McLeod’s Cottage tucked away in a quiet spot in the beautiful Delnabo Estate on the banks of the River Avon. The estate encompasses 3,500 acres of Scotland’s spectacular landscape, the perfect place to escape busy everyday life and reconnect with nature and loved ones. The charming cottage is surrounded by ancient woodlands with a burn running past and makes a cosy bolthole for families looking to explore the Cairngorms National Park. After a busy day walking, mountain biking, fishing or touring whisky distilleries, put your feet up in front of the log burner and plan the next day’s adventures.
The cottage feels warm and welcoming from the moment you step inside with cosy living spaces decorated in colours that complement its natural surroundings. Wake up to the sounds of the birds in the trees outside before heading into the contemporary kitchen to rustle up some breakfast. The dining table is surrounded by windows on three sides so you can enjoy the scenery while you eat. It’s full of natural light during the day while warm lighting takes over in the evenings, creating a cosy spot for long dinners with friends and family.
After a day exploring the estate and the Cairngorms National Park beyond, hunker down in the sitting room with a fire crackling away in the log burner. This is a cosy room with comfy sofas and footstools, the perfect spot to put your feet up in front of a film or to challenge the family to a board game or two. When it’s time for bed, there are three bedrooms, two of which are tucked away under the eaves of the cottage. One of these is set up with twin beds and the other is a double and they share a shower room. There’s a second double room with an ensuite bathroom with an over-bath shower and Laura Thomas Co. toiletries.
The Delnabo Estate is set in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park, a real haven for those looking to explore the outdoors. You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to things to see and do at any time of the year. In the summer, head out on long bike rides and hikes, looking out for the native wildlife along the way. In the winter, you’ll be able to head up into the mountains and do a bit of skiing. There are half a dozen distilleries within easy reach which offer tastings and tours, including The Macallan and Glenlivet. You’ll also find castles, beautiful gardens and historic houses to visit, including Balmoral, Ballindalloch and Gordon Castle.
