In the rustic beauty of a remote Scottish woodland, North Lodge is semi-detached house that was originally home to the caretakers who tended Glen Dye Lodge. Having been lovingly renovated with a flair for design, it is now a tranquil self-catering lodge with high end amenities and sleeping up to six people between three bedrooms.
Forty minutes from Aberdeen by car, North Lodge is a charming place to stay for friends and family looking to escape the trappings of day-to-day life. Soft furniture and a roaring open fire make the living room the perfect place to curl up after a long day of exploring the surrounding forests, while the well-appointed kitchen enables keen chefs to prepare slap up meals using exquisite local ingredients, to be enjoyed around the table inside or even al fresco in the summer months.
Everything in this chalet-style conversion has been considered for your comfort and luxury, from the Wi-Fi connection to the record collection and gramophone. Between two king sized bedrooms and a set of twin singles, almost any configuration can be accommodated in comfort. With authentic, well-crafted fixtures and fittings, and an understated, confident aesthetic, North Lodge is a delight.
Guests can also walk down a private path and head to River Cabin which occupies a slanted wooded riverbank with exquisite views of the surrounding topography. Your own private cabin is finished in industrial-chic corrugated sheet metal and sits on a timber platform. The cabin has a nice outdoor dining area as well as a Big Green Egg barbecue. It’s a great place for couples, families and groups of friends looking to spend time in the forests of Northern Scotland, a region famed for its wild, natural appeal.
Cook up a storm on the barbecue, before sinking into the Scandinavian style hot tub by the cabin, both of which are fuelled with unlimited firewood from the estate for the duration of your stay!
Visitors flock to the wilds of Scotland to escape the stress of the city, and North Lodge and River Cabin is the perfect antidote to strife. Drift off to sleep listening to the gentle swaying of the pines and the call of birds, or take an early morning hike while the others are still slumbering, allowing the crisp fresh air to fill your lungs.
After a day of walking you’ll be ready for a glass of single malt in front of the fire and a long read of one of the lodge’s many books, while an indoors washer-dryer will ensure that whatever the weather you’re always prepared. Being based on the river itself, you’ll be delighted with the range of activities on offer from trout fishing to canoeing, while those with an interest in history and culture will find endless entertainment in nearby Aboyne, Balmoral and Ballater.
