With beamed ceilings, open fires and oak-panelled walls, The Acorn Inn makes a cosy first impression. Offering bed and breakfast, the beautiful rooms are packed with character, charm and more than a touch of luxury. Downstairs the pub serves up excellent food, local ales - and even a game of skittles. Winning two Dorset Food and Drinks awards last year for Best Pub and Best Chef, you can be assured that dining out will be in safe hands.
The ten bedrooms are all named after locations or characters in Thomas Hardy’s novels - in fact the pub itself was the inspiration for The Sow and the Acorn in Tess of the d'Urbervilles. And the traditional touch does not end there - the elegant bedrooms are each as charming as the next with plenty of original features, beamed ceilings and eye-catching wallpaper. The sparkling ensuites offer a more modern interior and come with either a bath or shower.
The rooms range from sweet Snugs to the breathtaking Evershot Suite. The beds are wonderfully comfortable and are dressed with crisp white Belgian linen and gorgeous fabrics. All rooms come with flatscreen satellite TVs, tea and coffee facilities and free Wifi. And there are plenty of luxurious little touches, including luxury REN toiletries, mineral water (still or sparkling) and a daily maid service.
Downstairs, the pub has two bars, a skittle alley and a restaurant offering up excellent gastro-pub fare. It’s utterly charming and serves up food throughout the day. Lucky guests will get to experience their glorious breakfast that includes Dorset Cereals (naturally) and a choice of beautifully cooked local delights - be it eggs, sausages or bacon (or all three). Lunch and dinner offer up the same sustainable, locally sourced take on ingredients with everything from Dorset beef to locally caught fish - they even have a local ice-cream supplier.
The location is stunning. The village is set amongst the pretty Dorset countryside so you won’t need to go far to find a local country walk. The nearest town of Beaminster offers up plenty of galleries and gift shops. Or, head a little further to the town of Dorchester (20 minutes by car) to discover the world of Thomas Hardy and an array of beautiful restaurants. And if a visit to the coast is on the cards, you’re around forty minutes away from the Jurassic coast at Lyme Regis.
