Light and airy Lake District cottage with wood-burning stove, covered patio, and access to a full on-site spa.
In the picturesque Lake District Kendal region stands Twitchers, a beautifully restored one bedroom cottage, the perfect romantic getaway for couples looking to explore one of England’s most dramatic and stunning landscapes. Renovated to a high standard internally and outside, Twitchers has a farmhouse-style aesthetic which emphasises classic, stylish furniture, neutral colours, and understated, elegant architecture. The perfect destination for individuals and couples who want to spend time in the rugged Cumbrian hills without compromising on comfort, Twitchers is a country house with serious charm.
The main living space in the cottage is flooded with Lake District light from the modern French windows which open directly onto the private patio, the perfect place to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine and take in the views which have inspired countless artists and writers. In the living room space itself, a Scandinavian style engineered wood-burning stove provides hygge and comfort in a high-ceilinged space with ample soft furniture and hardwood floors.
You’ll be amazed by the amenities and appliances packed into the contemporary fitted kitchen, with its charming breakfast bar and painted timber cabinets. Off the drawing-room style main space, which also features a wall-mounted widescreen television, you’ll find the bedroom, a sizeable and light-filled room, with a dual height floor. Aside from the antique bedroom furniture, the standout treat in this room is the clawfoot double-ended bathtub which is a guaranteed delight to exhausted walkers and travellers, back from a long day rambling through the countryside. In addition to the bedroom bath, there is a full en-suite shower room with unique tiling, high-end glass walled shower, and modern fittings. Arranged across one level and decorated with no expense spared to ensure that guests are left with a sense of peace and wellbeing during and after their stay, Twitchers is the dream cottage for couples who are looking for a restorative self-catering house in the heart of the Lake District.
As part of a larger estate, Twitchers comes with access to the amenities including a 16 metre indoor swimming pool, full gym, sauna, spa and reception. Guests are encouraged to take advantage of everything the complex has to offer, including an expansive garden which is home to birds and butterflies all year round. Despite the tranquillity of this area, the M6 motorway is just a 15 minute drive away, and nipping into Kendal for groceries or supplies is speedy and straightforward. Kendal itself is a historic and charming town, with a number of authentic country pubs and nationally renowned restaurants.
Guests are able to stay within the National Park itself, without being isolated from amenities and businesses. Mirefoot Cottages supply illustrative walking maps with three suggested routes straight from the door lasting from one to two-and-a-half hours - you can access the fells straight from the door. The nearest supermarkets are a 10-15 minute drive and there are cafes, pubs, breweries and coffee shops nearby in Staveley. The Handsome Brewery is open at weekends less than 10 minutes down the road, and the Eagle and Child pub in Staveley is an hour's walk along the river Kent (and a bit more back over the hill or a 10 minute taxi ride!). For those wishing to push the culinary boat out there are excellent gastropubs, restaurants and fine dining experiences nearby. Try the Punchbowl Inn at Crosthwaite, Gilpin Spice near Crook or Forest Side near Grasmere.
