Perched high above the rolling vistas of the Herefordshire hills and near the Black Mountains, The Wagon Above the World is a stunning showman's wagon, now renovated into a self-catering space with a vast array of charming amenities. Boasting everything you could expect from a conventional holiday cottage, and packed with quirky features throughout, The Wagon Above the World is the ultimate rural getaway for couples looking for a unique and truly restorative break in some of the loveliest landscape in the British Isles.
The wagon itself resides high on the border of Herefordshire and Wales amid a wild paradise where you can expect to see rare birds, local species of mammal and a diverse selection of flora. The hosts have planted over 600 trees in the surrounding area to encourage pollinators and endangered species to make this idyll their home. Outside, take a refreshing shower as you gaze out over the mountain tops, or take it all in during a lengthy soak in the wooden hot tub with a cold, local beer. Alternatively, choose from a log seat on the wooden decking or snuggle into the shady hammock with a good book and let your stresses and concerns drift away over the mountains.
Inside the wagon, the same attention to detail has been paid to the furnishings. Despite the remote location and quirky set up, guests with a preference for creature comforts will be delighted by the full amenities that The Wagon Above the World has to offer. Cook your meals at a full size stove and oven, wash up in a standard sink with piping hot water and curl up in front of a wood-burning stove at the end of the evening. With your choice of bath or shower, and spacious interiors boasting expansive vistas, this really is a no-compromise home away from home. From the moment you wake up in the double bed and gaze out over the mountains until you dry off from the tub and head inside at the end of the day, every second spent in this remarkable property is a real treat.
Days are spent hiking the Black Mountains, listening to vinyl, or just taking it easy however you please. Explore the Brecon Beacons in style, or head to the Wye Valley, with Cardiff, Bristol and Birmingham all offering a fantastic day trip in under an hour. Kayak and mountain bike enthusiasts are bound to be delighted by the region and the provision of homemade flapjack, organic eggs and apple juice made from the owners' own orchard is an added bonus. Despite its privacy, from the wagon you can reach the local pub (with little shop) in less than 15 minutes on foot.
