Surrounded by the dramatic mountain scenery of the glen of Balquhidder, this cosy lodge offers quirky accommodation for two. The newly refurbished interior has a bohemian feel with vibrant colours and a mix of old and new furnishings. Outside, you’ll find a magical outdoor space inviting you to switch off and reconnect with nature. After a long day exploring the Glen and the spectacular Loch Voil, enjoy a soak in the wood-fired bath beneath the trees or relax in the sauna.
Inside, you’ll find a cosy living space where you can curl up on the sofa in front of the wood-burner in the evenings. Pull up a chair at the vintage Singer sewing machine table, repurposed as a dining table, and tuck into a hearty home-cooked dinner. The kitchen is well equipped for a self-catering holiday and you can also cook outside on the BBQ or whip up a homemade pizza in the Ooni pizza oven.
The luxurious bedroom features a French-style king-size bed and continues the lodge’s quirky feel with an eclectic mix of furnishings and colourful textiles. There’s an ensuite bathroom with a shower but you might prefer to treat yourself to a dip in the wood-fired bath outdoors.
The outdoor space is where the lodge really comes into its own. When the sun is shining, you’ll be able to spend all day enjoying the weather, cooking outside and relaxing on the comfy outdoor sofa which offers some shade. Get the fire pit going and you’ll be able to stay out late into the evening, toasting marshmallows and enjoying a bit of stargazing, well away from any major towns or cities.
The Glen of Balquhidder is arguably one of the hidden gems of the Trossachs and a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. There are endless walking opportunities and you can go straight from the lodge to trails that take you up Kirkton Glen where you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views over Loch Voil. The lodge is also located close to National Cycle Track No 7, which takes you away from the main roads and through picturesque Highland villages. There are two lochs to explore, Loch Voil and Loch Doine, both of which are popular with open water swimmers. You’ll also be able to hire a two-person kayak at The Love Shack, or have a go at paddle boarding. If you’re looking to dine out, the Monachyle Mhor Hotel at the far end of the Glen offers fine dining and Mhor 84 serves up hearty bistro food.

Leave a reviewThe right place at the right time. Stepping out the car was like being transported to a safe place, a comforting magical awakening where things just seemed so clear and transparent. Alison has single handedly created a fairytale land with her incredible imagery, talent and love. This love is truly felt from her wonderful and sincere introduction and her passion for what she has created. The home has everything you could possibly need and more. A romantic setting in amongst the woods with an amazing outdoor bath, sauna , fire pit and pizza oven. We need another week to make full use of it all! Immaculately clean with an amazing attention to detail with every corner being used effectively. This trip tuned out to be more than just a getaway. It was a special moment to connect with nature, connect with my partner; and to reconnect with myself. I left the Love Shack with a new state of mind and new appreciation for this wonderful world. Thank you Alison for facilitating that magic. You are super human.

The love shack is by far the most incredible place we have stayed. The decor and attention to detail is excellent. The whole place was exceptionally clean. Ali is a wonderful host, friendly and helpful. She left us with very thoughtful gifts for our 2 night honeymoon stay. We used the outside bath and sauna and highly recommend doing this even if the bath takes a while to heat up, it is worth it! The only problem is I wish we'd booked longer! We will be back.
