On the shores of Loch Nell and nestled amongst ancient oak trees, the Inverlonan Bothies offer real seclusion in a beautiful part of Scotland. These architecturally designed cabins set on a secret patch of wilderness are striking, complementing the surrounding rugged landscape. The three bothies are Uisige (pronounced “Oosh-Ka”) and Beatha (“Bay-Ay) and Sitheil (“She-Eel”) and all sit on their own private slice of wilderness. The first two bothies take their names from the Gaelic ‘Uisge Beatha’ which means ‘Water of Life’, a fitting title for two remote shelters that nestle between ancient oaks and peer over the spectacular waters of Loch Nell. Sitheil naturally translates as ‘Peaceful’. The bothies are only accessible on foot, by boat or buggy, yet the very best local produce can be delivered right to your door, so there’s no need to sacrifice the peace and quiet for anything.
Inside, you’ll find a warm and intimate atmosphere created by the modern, minimalist design and the high-quality furnishings and fabrics. Large glass panels reveal views of the lake and the landscape around and the neutral colours and the natural materials used to furnish the interior complement this. The cabins are split across two levels. The open plan ground floor features a cosy living space with a wood-burner and a small dining area. The double bed is located on a platform above, accessed via a ladder.
Each bothy has a private deck outside, a fire pit for cooking and keeping you warm as the sun sets over the hills and an outdoor wood-fired pizza oven. There’s also a private eco-toilet and an outdoor shower. A ‘Farm to Bothy’ breakfast is included and can be found in your bothy larder. Ingredients are sourced locally to give you an authentic taste of artisan West Coast living. A few weeks before your stay, you’ll be provided with a list of available provisions from local producers and they’ll be delivered ready for your arrival.
When it comes to relaxation, you're sure to love the marvellous lochside, wood-burning sauna. The sauna is for the exclusive use of guests is now available for half-day rental. Why not combine use of the sauna with intermittent dips in the lovely water of the loch for a refreshing, revitalising experience? And if you want to treat yourself to a fabulous dining experience, then you will want to try the wild dining option. Watch as an exceptionally talented chef with Michelin training prepares you a delicious meal over a live fire in a secret location. You'll be able to watch him at work as you sit with a delicious drink surrounded by scenic Highland beauty. With an emphasis on the wild and preserving the seasons, the chef uses the freshest, most seasonal, most local, most ethically sourced ingredients they can find. This dining experience is grand and offers an eight course set menu!
The area of wilderness around the bothies invites you to get back to basics and to nature. Brew some fresh coffee on your stove before diving into the loch for a rejuvenating wild swim. Spend your days exploring the spectacular landscape and cooking up feasts over your open fire pit in the evening. The cabins are reached through the Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park which offers some of the most stunning landscape in Scotland and is just six miles from the port of Oban. Known as the ‘Gateway to the Isles’, this is the perfect base for venturing to the Western Isles, including the beautiful Iona and Mull.

Leave a reviewWe had such a lovely time at Inverlonan Bothies. The cabins are great - the perfect balance of comfort and "off-grid". We would highly recommend and hope to visit again sometime. Our dog also had a great time.
