In the rolling hills of East Sussex, a short distance from the picturesque and historic town of Lewes, The Grain Store is a former storage building lovingly converted into a three bedroom self-catering cottage, available for groups looking to spend time the stunning scenery of the Sussex Downs. With abundant indoors and outside space, contemporary amenities and sleeping space for up to six guests, The Grain Store is ideally located for short trips to Brighton, Lewes, Glyndebourne and the coast.
The Grain Store’s main living space is the open-plan living room, with its double height ceilings, light and airy aspect, and views of the rugged surrounding landscape. There is a lovely sun trap courtyard and balcony for outdoors space, as well as of course the miles of uninterrupted downs stretching to the coast.
The kitchen is a social hub of the cottage, with sleek, elegant lines and a striking modern aesthetic. Congregate around the breakfast bar to discuss the day’s plans over coffee, and whip up a feast for six hungry guests, back from a day spent exploring the Downs, villages and pubs. Each of the bedrooms is a double, with a pleasing modern rural design emphasising wood, natural light, and neutral, timeless décor. The property has three bathrooms, unusually for a cottage of this size, and guests with limited mobility will be pleased to find that there is a wheelchair-accessible bedroom and bathroom on the ground floor. Thoughtful design, environmental sustainability and master craftsmanship are at the heart of The Grain Store, from the cedar clad exterior and original concrete frame to the air source heat pump and solar panels, making this a guilt-free eco-holiday without compromise.
Long celebrated as a hotbed of culture and counterculture, nearby Brighton is well worth a visit. Lewes and Glyndebourne are characterised by rural beauty, brilliant pubs, independent shops and excellent art galleries. Perhaps best known for the summer opera season which draws classical music fans from all over the world. Glyndebourne is well worth a visit whatever the season and the Bloomsbury group of bohemian writers and literary figures were based at nearby Charleston Farmhouse, which is a great place to check out, especially for keen literature enthusiasts. Alternatively, strike out along the South Downs Way, or along any number of the hiking trails and National Trust pathways which snake through the immediate vicinity. To get the heart rate really racing, try your hand at everything from sailing to horse-riding, wild swimming to mountain biking.
