Amidst the gently rolling hills of the Salisbury countryside, The Compasses Inn is a beautifully intact 14th Century pub, characterised by original features, and offering brilliant food and a choice of accommodation options. The Compasses Inn combines rustic cheer, fantastic local ales, great food, and rooms for multiple travellers, both in the rooms above the pub, and in a detached country cottage in the grounds.
In Chicksgrove, a dreamy village in Wiltshire’s tranquil and gorgeous Nadder Valley, The Compasses Inn offers the chance to step back in history, experiencing pub architecture and décor unchanged by the last six hundred years. The floor is authentic flagstone, a fire blazes in the open, inglenook hearth, and overhead run timber beams. Unspoilt by the intervening centuries, The Compasses Inn is a hidden gem, and a totally unique pub experience. The bar is a great place to stop for a pint of local ale at any time of day, but the menu really is worth experiencing. Combining traditional pub fare with more contemporary innovations, the food at The Compasses Inn is some of the best in the area. Prizing locally sourced meat and produce, expertly prepared and presented, the kitchen team at The Compasses Inn are certainly onto something.
Upstairs, there are four hotel-style rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom. Three are set up with double beds, and the fourth is a more substantial ‘family style’ room. All benefit from large, flat-screen televisions, WiFi, and a combination of antique and contemporary furnishings. In addition, The Compasses Inn offers a three bedroom cottage in the grounds outside, available to rent on a self-catering basis. Plum Cottage is divided into a double bedroom and two singles, making it a perfect holiday home for families or groups of friends. A fully functioning kitchen has everything you need to cook a feast with local Wiltshire fare, while the sitting room is cosy and picturesque, with a wood-burning stove.
The Nadder Valley is celebrated throughout the UK for its topography and visual appeal. Guests flock to this area of Wiltshire to spend time outdoors and take in the majesty of one of the nation’s finest landscapes. In the village of Lower Chicksgove, The Compasses Inn is perfectly located to take advantage of the valley and its many attractions. Walking, cycling, dining, drinking and any number of other rural pursuits are within easy reach of the inn, while the village itself offers a number of diverting and enriching past times. The Compasses Inn itself offers a number of regular events, including live music and other quintessential pub activities.
