The Heron is a one-of-a-kind ‘Tiny Barn’ that is tucked away in a tranquil corner of Colber Farm in the Dorset countryside. Designed to offer a unique, off-grid escape whilst not compromising on comfort, The Heron is an idyllic retreat for groups of up to four guests (two adults and two children) with extra space for an infant if required. Completely off-grid and powered by its own solar array, this delightful little hut manages to be almost entirely carbon neutral whilst still maintaining a truly luxurious glamping experience.
This hidden gem is nestled behind a wonderful wildlife pond offering you and your loved ones the chance to be at one with nature.
Outside, the barn has a fantastic social space where you can relax and unwind whilst taking in the lovely views of your surroundings. There’s a firepit here, with some chairs, offering you a lovely spot to stay toasty and warm as the night draws in and you also have a fab alfresco dining table for lovely sunny lunches. The outdoor space also features a deluxe outdoor bathtub, offering you a luxurious way to unwind after a day exploring the local area. You can also get comfy in the hanging chair, which is a great spot to tuck into a good book.
Stepping inside, the barn is nicely decorated and furnished and there’s even a toasty wood-burning fireplace to keep you warm all year round. In one corner of the barn is a quaint kitchenette, which has all you need to whip up meals during your stay. The kitchenette features a two-ring gas hob and a fridge as well as all the necessary pots, pans, plates and cutlery. If you love cooking over flames, then you can also make use of the outdoor fire pit and fire bowl which come with a grill and cooking pots! There’s also a cute breakfast bar should you wish to enjoy your breakfast or morning coffee indoors. The barn’s living space also features a sofa opposite the fireplace.
You will be forgiven for wanting to spend all your time outside, relaxing in the bath or watching the nearby wildlife, however, additional entertainment options are provided, including a DVD projector with a selection of movies, a radio, cards, board games, binoculars for animal spotting and a small collection of books.
When night falls, there is a super-comfy king size bed that offers a lovely night’s sleep. It also has a picture window at its base meaning you can enjoy a lie-in with a view. There is also space for two children to sleep in the two single beds that sit in the hayloft - a mezzanine level above the kitchen area. You also have your own gas powered shower and an ensuite toilet and your hosts have provided locally made toiletries for you to enjoy.
The owners do a range of breakfast and food hampers, all stocked with local produce. Details of these are sent out once you have booked. If you don't fancy cooking then there are lots of great options locally including The Bull Tavern and The White Horse for good pub food and Plumber Mannor for fine dining. The hosts also recommend Joshua's Cafe for excellent cake and hot drinks.
There's plenty to see and do in the local area, especially for nature lovers eager to explore this stunning part of Dorset. Nestled near the edge of the Cranborne Chase National Landscape, a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, you'll have 380 square miles of breathtaking countryside at your doorstep, spanning Wiltshire, Dorset, Hampshire and Somerset. Wander along miles of scenic trails through captivating landscapes and then relax with a drink and a bite to eat at a charming local pub.
Cranborne Chase is also a Dark Sky Reserve, offering an extraordinary opportunity to stargaze without the interference of light pollution.
