Just 45 minutes’ drive from Gothenburg and you’re on the beautiful island of Klädesholmen. Head to the water and here you’ll find Sweden’s first floating hotel, Salt and Sill.

Step aboard, and find several bright, modern rooms located across six buildings all on floating platforms overlooking the sea. All rooms have crisp, clean bedding on twin or double beds, and an extra child’s bed or cot can also be set up. Each room comes with an en suite shower room, a TV and free Wi-Fi throughout. Open the curtains to admire the view, or fling the doors open to hear the lap of the sea against the floating deck and the smell of salt in the air.

Walk out onto your private patio and admire the panoramic views of the Bohuslän Archipelago that surrounds you. There’s even BBQ facilities should you fancy cooking up some of the bountiful, local seafood available to you, whilst you soak up your surroundings. In true Swedish style there’s a sauna-boat for all guests to use, plus a large, pontoon deck you can dive off straight into the water, so how could you resist?

Salt & Sill’s sea-side restaurant serves a menu of traditional, regional specialities, such as sill (the herring fish), and makes the ideal spot to watch the sun dip down at the end of the day, perhaps with a gin and tonic.

You’ll find plenty of opportunities for fishing, canoeing and hiking in the area. You’re also able to rent bicycles at the property to explore the surroundings, and Klädesholmen Island makes the perfect place to explore with plenty of twisty lanes and narrow paths between the houses to squeeze through. So why not take a picnic and simply go wandering. In June and July you’ll find the island buzzing with Swedish people enjoying holidays in their second homes, whilst the rest of the year is quieter, giving you plenty of peace and space to explore.
