Moored in Gloucester Docklands and lovingly renovated to a very high standard inside and out, SULA Lightship is a former working ship, now converted into a self-catering property, available to rent. Sleeping four guests between two high-end cabins, and with full cooking and leisure facilities, SULA Lightship is the perfect accommodation option for couples, families and anyone else who fancies something a little bit different.

The main living space inside SULA Lightship combines hardwood floors and panels with comfy furniture and sleek kitchen equipment to create a comfortable and contemporary aesthetic. With WiFi and a television, be as plugged in as you like, or take the opportunity to unwind without digital distractions. Off the lounge there are two private cabins, one with its own small fridge and both with kettles and hot drink stations set up for you to enjoy a cup of tea in bed first thing in the morning. The carpentry and finishes are to the same high standard that you’ll experience elsewhere on the ship, making for two dreamy and restorative cabins.

Making use of reclaimed oak and with portholes facing the dock wall, the shower room on SULA Lightship has everything that you need, with lashings of hot water and contemporary fixtures and fittings; just because you’re on a former working ship, doesn’t mean you’ll be compromising on comfort or quality. As far as outdoor space goes, you have the choice of two wonderful decks. The Bow Deck is the ideal spot to watch the boats sail by, and is also where you can pick up a paddle board or canoe. Alternative, the Sun Deck is a great place to recline with a cup of coffee or glass of wine and gaze out toward Llanthony Priory’s spires, or watch the stars rise at the end of a long day on board.

SULA Lightship truly is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience the comfort of an upmarket hotel combined with the exciting novelty of sleeping on a ship. No expense has been spared and no detail overlooking in creating a wonderful self-catered space for between one and four guests on board this stunning ship.

Being moored in the heart of Gloucester Docklands, the many bars, restaurants and retail facilities of Gloucester Quays are just a short walk away. There are over fifteen eateries within two hundred yards of the mooring, so that every taste and dietary requirement can be catered for. More active guests should check out the nearby climbing centre, while no trip to Gloucester is complete without exploring the famous cathedral, whose spires are visible from the sun deck.

Something completely different We had a really great, but too short a weekend stay on the magnificent LV SULA. A really amazing vessel and so much more interesting than just staying in another rental apartment. And Gloucester docks is an excellent location for exploring this city. We really appreciated Colin’s quick intro to the ship when we arrived and the full tour and history just before we left. Took a little bit of time to get used to the sloping floors and low headroom in places (I’m 6ft 2in) but that’s all part off the charm of being ‘on board’. The accommodation was really well thought out – given it’s a ship – and well provisioned. Plus Colin and Viv are excellent hosts.

A wonderful and unique place to stay- highly recommend! We spent a wonderful three nights over the Bank Holiday on board the SULA and I would highly recommend! The ship is stunning with such attention to detail and Colin and Viv are the perfect hosts - they made us feel right at home and Colin's tour of the ship was a real highlight. It was lovely to share their passion for the SULA and its history, as well as a cup of tea! The ship has everything you need and we very much enjoyed relaxing on the sun deck with a glass of wine in the early evenings. It's also super close to the centre with lots of bars and restaurants on the doorstep. If you're visiting Gloucester or just fancy staying in a really unique place, the SULA is for you! Thanks again Colin and Viv (and the dogs Boz, Wilfrid and Stanley!) :)
