This gorgeous eco barn is tucked away on the edge of the Dean Forest in the heart of the Wye Valley and would be a perfect romantic getaway for a couple seeking an escape from the noise and bustle. This is the place to take a deep breath, slow right down and get back to nature.
The hub of this lovely home is the living room with its crisp white walls, wooden beams and stone features. There are two big, comfy sofas and a wood burner to keep you toasty on chilly evenings. This is a great place to put your feet up after a long day of exploring and watch a movie with a big glass of wine.
The kitchen is fully equipped and includes all the usuals plus a dishwasher, washing machine and the all important Nespresso machine. The owners provide some thoughtful bits and bobs to get you started such as tea, coffee, condiments and oil so you can whip up a feast.
The bedroom is light and airy with a king size bed and crisp white linens promising a good, deep night's sleep with nothing but the sound of nature to lull you away. In the morning you can take advantage of the modern and very stylish bathroom which has a big tub and separate shower.
When you're ready to start the day you might like to take that first coffee out to the sheltered terrace, a gorgeous open space with plenty of seating, a long table for outdoor dining and wonderful views all around. If the weather is agreeable you'll find a BBQ to make use of and as evening falls you can light the fire pit and get cosy with some hot chocolate and marshmallows. There's even a Scandinavian wood fired hot tub which you can hire separately, and its well worth it - filled with fresh water and no chemicals, its the perfect place to bob around with a glass of champagne and gaze at the stars.
The barn is surrounded by local flora and fauna with wild flower patches and brilliant woodland and riverside walks. Head through the warren of small twisty paths in the woods and discover Devil's Pulpit, the Hudnells and St Briavels. If you're feeling peckish you're only a 30 minute stroll from the award winning village shop where you can get a great coffee and a light lunch. For something a bit more substantial you could try the Hare restaurant in Tintern and if you want to pull out all the stops and enjoy some Michelin delights make a booking at White-Brook. However you choose to spend your day the Owls Nest will be a delight to return to.

Leave a reviewWas our first visit to owls nest, and how wonderful it was.. magical, cosy, ultimate relaxation, the hot tub was fabulous, we spent our evenings dipping in and out of it and enjoyed it even in the rain. The sheep were fun and came to greet us, super friendly, we went exploring in the woods behind, and went wandering down the bridal paths down to the river wye. Had the log burner going in the evenings while relaxing, a truly lovely place to visit and will definately be back ????

My partner and I enjoyed a complete break from it all at the Owls Nest - we didn't want to leave! We loved how secluded it felt and how surrounded by nature. At the same time the property was equipped with everything we needed and was so cozy and very clean. We paid the extra to have the hot tub fired up and it was worth it- we spent starlit evenings in the tub listening to owls. We also enjoyed the company of the retired sheep and watching the sunset up on the seating area above the cottage, listening to birds of prey. The area is great as there are lots of places nearby to visit and Tinturn Abbey is a lovely walk away along the river. But really, we just wanted to stay put! Thanks to Lucy who made us so welcome and who was so accommodating we will be back!

Impossibly peaceful cottage, in one of the most beautiful places you will ever stay. This was my second stay and definitely won’t be the last. The cottage is beautifully maintained and the kitchen is well stocked so you can cook great meals. Lovely bathroom with a massive bath which is a real bonus if you’re tall and a separate shower. The wildlife and resident sheep will have you in raptures. This stay I had a visit from a squirrel and a finch and spent the early evenings watching the swallows give an amazing acrobatic display. Can’t wait for my next visit, so thanks to Lucy for letting us all enjoy the peace of the Owls Nest

My partner and I just had the the best few days at the Owl's Nest, we really didn't want to leave. It's absolutely beautiful and just the break we needed. We loved watching the birds and the sheep were so friendly and always came to say hello! The hot tub was also a special treat and we will definitely be returning in the near future!

A lovely, peaceful rural retreat in a beautiful area. The cottage has lots of character and charm, with tastefully done interiors and surrounded by trees, birds and friendly sheep! We treated ourselves to the hot tub which was perfect after a long day of walking! The walk into Tintern along the river is stunning and easy to do, and there are good cafes and restaurants to enjoy there. Highly recommended!

Had a perfect stay at the owls nest. It was a much needed relaxing break, with everything we needed plus the extra special treat of the hot tub. We loved watching the birds and were happy watching the family of swallows which were nested next to the front door flying around. The sheep were also a lovely bonus! Being next to Tintern, there are great pubs and walks nearby, including Devils Pulpit and Puzzlewoods. Would 100% recommend staying here and we’re hoping to visit again soon!

A beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. Owl's Nest has everything for a couple looking to escape to nature. The cottage is clean with all the mod cons and we particularly enjoyed the various places to sit outside. We were also fortunate to have a family of swallows nesting just above the front door during our stay and witnessed the chick's getting bigger by the day. Definitely a place to return to!

My boyfriend and I had the absolute pleasure to stay at The Owls Nest from 17th - 19th February for a Valentines get away. The Owls Nest overlooks stunning views of the forest of dean. Listening to the birds and wildlife was so peaceful and tranquil, such a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. The Owls Nest cottage is beautifully presented and we loved all the personal touches such as the fairy lights and candles. The home is kept in immaculate condition and the place felt so clean and comfortable for our stay. We hired the eco hot tub for the weekend which was a treat to relax in with a glass of wine while soaking up the nature. We made friends with ‘Tobs’ and the gang (you will get to know them well!!) who we loved seeing every morning! If you are looking for a peaceful escape surrounded in untouched nature, while lazing in front of a log fire, then we couldn’t recommend The Owls Nest enough! Thanks to our host Lucy for sharing the piece of paradise with us. You have created such a magical and special sanctuary in The Forest and we cannot wait to come back again in the near future.

What a beautiful place. If you are looking to get away from it all then look no further. This cottage is just outstanding and the setting is beautiful, the hot tub is a must. Listening to the owls late at night and relaxing is just bliss. The host Lucy is lovely and happy to answer any questions you have. The cottage itself is full of character and finished to the highest standard and very welcoming. The local pubs are a must for food and local beer. If you book this venue you will be in for a treat as it’s just perfect in every way. We are hoping to go back soon.

We had a wonderful few days here. The barn was beautifully converted and really comfortable. The birds were a delight to watch and even saw my first Marsh tit. We enjoyed the wood fired hot tub even in January and it was wonderful just to look at the stars. Some fantastic walks from the door to Tintern Abbey and the Devil’s pulpit along Offa’s Dyke for great views.
