This fantastic waterfront fjord cottage is located within the city limits of Oslo, to find such a place is truly unusual within a city landscape. You will be staying right on the water (a small jetty opens out onto the water from the back door) and the property has an extensive shoreline with excellent opportunities for swimming, diving, kayaking, and boating. It ensures that the property becomes an ideal location regardless of the season of your visit.
The cottage was built at a time when the City of Oslo still permitted construction right on the water. Such construction is no longer allowed, rendering this a particularly rare and unique opportunity to stay in a place like no other.
The interior is modern and light permeates throughout and great care has been taken to ensure that light is a key feature. A combined heat pump and air conditioning unit ensures comfortable indoor temperatures around the year. Admittedly, the fjord cottage is not the largest, which makes the design all the more remarkable as it strives to make the most out of every cubic millimeter.
The kitchen comes fully equipped to allow your party to conjure up some culinary delights including: a Miele induction cooktop, an oven, a microwave oven, a dishwasher, refrigerator and freezer, a coffee machine, knives, china, and glassware.
The living area contains a flatscreen, but it is the dining area that steals the show. The large table and seating alcove allows for stunning panoramic views out across the fjord; you can take in a 180 degrees of the Oslo Fjord including the scenic little islands dotted throughout and even downtown Oslo is visible in the distance! The charming outdoor area allows for further access to these views and the outdoor kitchen contains a gas grill, a heat lamp, a dining area, reclining chairs and much more. Enjoying a meal on the decking whilst the sun comes down during the summer is a must!
The bedroom is rather snug and contains four bunk beds, there is also a mezzanine sleeping loft which sleeps up to four people in two comfortable double beds. The loft is perched above the living area and is accessed by a ladder. Each bed features an overhead ceiling window which offers the opportunity to fall asleep right under the stars. The waterside fjord cottage is ideal for couples, families and groups of up to four or five friends. It can sleep up to eight people, but the sleeping arrangements become intimate if there are that many guests, so 6 is the amount advised by owners.
The immediate vicinity to the water provides for stunning views in all kinds of weather. Yes, when it is warm, it is possibly the most ideal and you can enjoy all manner of water sports straight from your back door. However, in winter the fjord is sometimes covered by ice thick enough to allow skating, skiing, ski sailing and kite snowboarding!
The property is located only 12 minutes by bus away from the centre of Oslo, and there are frequent bus departures from just outside the property from early morning to late evening. A visit to Oslo should be near the top of your list of things to do - Oslo is a green city with plenty of historical significance, the shopping and dining scene is vibrant and the locals are known for their warmth and generosity.
