This beautifully restored 19th century cottage sits tucked away in the heart of the Scottish Highlands with views of the loch and 13th century castle ruins and would be ideal for a couple of nature lovers looking for a tranquil and romantic getaway surrounded by some of Scotland's most beautiful scenery.
This little treasure in the Cairngorms National Park is incredibly welcoming. The building itself maintains many of its original features whilst the interior has been decorated with modern, sumptuous furnishings creating a cosy, luxurious bolthole which can be enjoyed in any weather.
Inside you'll find an open plan living area with high ceilings, wooden floors and a pale neutral palette with touches of colour in the soft furnishings that reflect the hues of the loch, the sky and the heathery mountains outside. Soft comfy seating is arranged around a double-sided wood burner, the rear of which heats the bedroom next door.
The walls are adorned with lots of pretty framed pictures and the vibe is tranquil and warm – a perfect place to cosy up during Scotland's famously changeable weather. The far part of the space is dedicated to a large kitchen area which comes fully equipped with everything you could need to cook a romantic meal, and a round table with seating is just right for a couple wanting a long lazy supper with a bottle of something delicious.
When it's time for bed you'll find a gorgeous haven next door, pre-heated by the burner, with a big comfy bed bedecked in crisp white linens with plenty of pillows and cushions. The bedroom window looks out onto a private garden so you can feel free to leave the curtains open at night and enjoy the fresh air and the vast star-filled sky.
Wake to the sound of nature and little else before heading into your luxurious ensuite bathroom, complete with underfloor heating, to enjoy a soak in the tub – there's a TV in there if you fancy making it a long and lazy start to the day!
If it's a warm morning you might like to take your coffee to the light-filled sit-out-erie and start the day with glorious views. And if its a bit chilly there are two plush window seats to choose from. An excellent spot from which to bird watch and see the comings and goings of nature.
Use the nearby path to take a walk around the loch and see how many deer, red squirrels, badgers and Highland birds you can spot. And if you'd like to stray further afield you’ll be right in the heart of the National Park, with its dramatic landscapes, charming villages and an endless range of outdoor activities including fishing, whisky distilleries and horseback riding.
If you want to cook some local produce you'll be delighted by Rothiemurchus Farm Shop where you can buy a whole host of wonderful ingredients and if you fancy a meal, out the nearest restaurant is The Old Bridge Inn, in Aviemore on the banks of the river Spey. It's a local institution and booking is advised! Put your wellies on and get out into nature before returning to your cosy fire-lit nook in the Highlands.
