Perched on the edge of Derwentwater in the Lake District, The Lingholm Boathouse offers a tranquil and romantic escape for two. In one of the area’s most scenic locations, one side of the apartment is fully glazed, so the beautiful views across the lake can always be enjoyed, even from the bath. The Boathouse is part of the Lingholm Estate in the heart of the Northern Lake District and is surrounded by some of the most spectacular Lakeland fells. Skiddaw, Blencathra and the Borrowdale Fells are all nearby, offering some of the best walking routes in the country.
The beautiful, modern apartment features a kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom with views over Derwentwater and the landscape beyond from every room. The exterior of the apartment is clad in wood and stone, helping it blend in seamlessly with the natural surroundings. There’s also a balcony with seating and glass railings so as not to interrupt the view. This makes the perfect spot for a peaceful morning coffee watching the local wildlife as the mist rises from the lake, or for a romantic evening drink as the sun sets.
The fully-equipped modern kitchen leads through to the spacious living and dining area in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows on the side of the apartment facing the lake. The position of the building, right on the shore of Derwentwater, immerses you in the landscape. Relax on one of the comfy sofas and soak up the views, or enjoy them from the luxurious free-standing bath in the bedroom which also features a sumptuous king-size bed. Head through to the ensuite bathroom and you’ll find a waterfall shower.
The apartment is set on Lingholm Estate’s large stretch of private lake frontage and you can make your way up to the magnificent main house through the garden. Beatrix Potter spent many happy summer holidays on the estate, taking inspiration from her surroundings for some of her most famous stories. The Lingholm Kitchen Garden is said to be the inspiration for Mr McGregor’s garden in The Tale of Peter Rabit. The location, close to some of the most famous fells, leaves you spoilt for choice when it comes to walking routes. You can access Catbells from a footpath at the end of the drive, or there are walks around Derwentwater and routes towards Keswick. You can set off straight from the apartment without having to drive anywhere, stopping off at pubs and villages along the way. After a day’s exploring, return to Lingholm Boathouse and watch the sunset from the balcony or even the bath.
