A lovely 1920s family cottage with private pool, in the gardens of Virginia Woolf's St Ives home.
Steeped in design and creativity, La Loggia lies within the gardens of Virginia Woolf’s Talland House. Designed by Bloomsbury architect George Kennedy in 1922, the house features unique arches and curves and has been thoughtfully reimagined by the current designer owners, whose love of bold print and colour is represented throughout.
Flooded with natural light, the ground floor has a generous living room with double vaulted ceilings leading on to the kitchen, utility area and a spacious conservatory. Custom crafted cabinetry, one-off pieces of furniture, prints and artwork fill the cottage with a profusion of colour and personality, all of which culminate in a home that’s not only unique, but also extremely inviting. Four bedrooms offer ample space for six guests and include a superb master bedroom with free-standing Agape bath and antique French king size bed. The cottage’s bathrooms include top-notch designs and fittings, with a Japanese deep soaking bathtub in the family bathroom piling on even more luxury.
Outside, the views towards Godrevy Lighthouse, as well as plenty of space for outdoor entertaining and relaxation, mean guests will relish their time in La Loggia’s beautiful garden as much as Virgina herself once did. The home’s recently renovated heated swimming pool is perfect for refreshing dips on warm days, and its bespoke hand painted abstract pattern is mirrored in the surrounding deckchairs, blankets and decorative items.
La Loggia’s secluded atmosphere and sense of privacy make it easy to forget that central St Ives is mere moments away. Here you can spend your days exploring the winding streets and narrow lanes of the town, ducking in and out of art galleries, perusing boutiques and sampling local eateries. The clean clear waters of the Blue Flag Award winning Porthminster Beach is just a 13 minute walk down from the cottage too, and if the house inspires your creative side, a trip to the iconic Tate St Ives Art Gallery or Barbara Hepworth Museum and Sculpture Garden is a must.
