Cusgarne Manor is a historic Grade II* listed farmhouse that has recently undergone an impressive refurbishment. It has been providing wonderful bed and breakfast accommodation since 2021 and has won some prestigious awards. The Manor would be an ideal choice for anyone seeking a tranquil retreat surrounded by farmland, wonderful breakfasts and a perfect base from which to explore all of Cornwall.
Cusgarne Manor currently offers three rooms in its elegantly refurbished building, all of which have something special to offer.
The Bailey Suite is the largest of the three rooms and offers a king size bed with an additional connecting single bedroom. A good choice for friends travelling together who don't mind sharing the ensuite. Painted in pale lilac, the main room is serene and peaceful. A gorgeous wrought iron bed with pocket-sprung Goodchild and Palmer mattress offers a divine night's sleep snuggled up in goose feather duvet and pillows.
Whilst the Rennie Mackintosh touches give the whole room an early 20th century vibe there are all the modern amenities, including a smart TV, so you can snuggle up and watch a movie before bed. The attached single room is also very pretty with pale green-blue walls and a large window overlooking the valley. The three-foot bed has the same luxury linens and mattress and an additional comfy armchair. The ensuite wet room is spacious and provides luxurious White Company towels alongside complimentary Ren toiletries.
Simmons is a very cosy king room with vintage painted mid-century furniture and a blue and green décor which is very soothing. As with The Bailey Suite, the bed and mattress is of the highest quality with 400 thread-count Egyptian cotton sheets. Unusually, the ensuite is even larger than the bedroom and has a fabulous free-standing double ended bathtub with a view! Laze away the morning and have a long soak, or if you want to be out and about you can hop in the large walk-in shower instead. All of the rooms have tea and coffee making facilities so you can enjoy a first cup from the comfort of your bed if you're not quite ready for breakfast yet.
The Harris Room offers the best views and is tucked away in the attic. It runs the length of the main part of the house and has charming lime washed roof trusses and 'Cornforth' white painted walls creating a bright and cheerful space with a cosy double bed and luxury pocket-sprung Shakespeare mattress. There is an original beam to duck under as you enter the room so it might not be ideal for the very tall but it is one of the favourite rooms for guests visiting. The ensuite shower room is a delightful dark clay colour and very elegant with all of the complimentary toiletries and fluffy towels provided as with the other two rooms.
After a restful night and a bracing shower you can head downstairs to the main part of the building for the Cusgarne Manor breakfast which is a very special part of what the hosts offer. They use local suppliers and only the best ingredients for what has become a rather famous spread. You can go full 'Cornish' with excellent pork sausages and Cornish hog's pudding, and be sure to try their local smoked salmon. Cusgarne always bake their own bread and this is a treat in its own right with delicious Trewithen Dairy salted butter! In addition they offer fresh grapefruit, organic muesli and wonderful local fresh juices, coffee and tea.
Once you've filled up on local delicious treats you might like to take a stroll. The Manor is surrounded by leafy lanes for pretty walks. The Manor is right in the middle of Cornwall and makes an excellent base from which to explore being only six miles from both coasts! A few miles to the north you'll find the rugged cliffs of Porthreath and a few miles south the calming waters of the Carrick Roads and the Helford River. You'll be close to Falmouth, a bustling town with wonderful beaches and museums, and from here ferries can take you to visit the pretty villages of St Mawes and Flushing on the Roseland. And if you're into excellent food you should pay a visit to Porthleven, famed for its selection of high quality restaurants.
