Zanzibar House is a former award-winning boutique hotel that now maintains all the luxury of a high-end guest house whilst allowing its occupants complete privacy. Boasting eight ensuite bedrooms, it would be just the ticket for large family get togethers or friends seeking a stylish holiday home by the sea.
Upon entering this wonderful former hotel you'll be struck by the generous amount of space available for everyone. The ground floor is the heart of the house with a fully fitted well equipped kitchen which opens up via bi-fold doors to a magnificent covered garden lush with palm trees, an alfresco dining area, BBQ and hot tub. The perfect spot on a sunny day to gather for a glass of welcoming fizz!
Back inside, at the other end of the kitchen, you'll find a beautiful dining room replete with chandelier, fireplace and a gorgeous reclaimed wooden dining table with soft bench seating against the wall and chairs opposite. It comfortably seats 14 to 16 people but if you do require extra, there's a nearby smaller table that will take an additional three or four. With its eclectic décor it's the perfect place for celebratory meals or long lazy evenings of wine and chatter. This room leads into the cosy lounge where you'll find plenty of comfortable seating, a fantastic bar for mixing some margaritas and more evidence of the stylish, quirky décor that gives this property so much character. Mustard leather chairs, rugs, antique mirrors and plants, it all ties together with style and comfort at its forefront. Most of the rooms have wonderful views of the sea and this room boasts a large screen TV and Blue ray DVD player with dozens of films to choose from if you fancy cracking open the popcorn and snuggling in for the night.
When it's time for bed you have eight unique and beautiful, spacious bedrooms to choose from, each and everyone with its own en-suite. Each room has a world theme encompassing everything from Japan to Manhattan with a couple of rooms showcasing gorgeous tubs opposite the bed for long bubble baths with champagne in the privacy of your own sanctuary. All of the rooms have TVs with Netflix and you'll be delighted by the high quality bed linen, REN toiletries, luxury bath oils, fluffy robes and complimentary slippers.
In the morning you can help yourself to some coffee from the Sage 'bean to cup' coffee machine and head out to the covered terrace to plan your day.
One of the many joys of Zanzibar House is that it's situated a mere 30 metres from the beach and when you exit the house you'll find miles of wide promenade from which to begin your exploration. If you're an active sort the prom is ideal for morning runs and cycles, and if you're of a brave nature you can head down on to the beach and indulge in some sea swimming.
St Leonards is the trendy area of Hastings and you'll find a host of great pubs, restaurants, cafes and bakeries within walking distance. There’s always live music playing somewhere and the folk and sea shanty session at The Stag on a Tuesday evening comes highly recommended. Hastings has a lovely old area with cobbled streets and funicular railways which gives way to the Hastings Country Park offering cliff top walks and stunning views all the way to Rye. There's an aquarium, a contemporary gallery and a fishermen’s museum, not to mention the amusement arcades, boating lake, fish and chips a lovely little cafes by the beach. You'll find a seafront littered with junk shops, vintage clothes and retro furniture. There's something to please everyone and never a dull moment to be had. And after you've had your fill you can pootle back to Zanzibar and get started on the pre-dinner cocktails.
