Sitting on the banks of the Loch Venachar, with incredible views out over the water, Willow Cabin offers groups of up to eight guests a fabulous stay in rural Stirlingshire. With two king size rooms and two bunk rooms, the cabin is ideal for groups of friends with kids or family escapes.
From the outside, the cabin is super-modern, clad in larch and zinc and stands out from the verdant greenery around it, thanks to its shiny, metallic exterior. When you step inside, you’re presented with a bright and airy living space with huge windows that perfectly frame the loch views. The modern, open plan living area is sleek and stylish with beautiful artwork on the walls and soothing colours throughout.
The lounge area features a comfy corner sofa that is perfectly positioned for you to enjoy the views out over the water through the large window. It also features a log-burning fireplace so you and your loved ones can stay toasty and warm no matter the weather outside. The living space also has a dining table that sits next to the French doors, which allow plenty of natural light to flood in whilst also opening up onto the deck. The kitchen, with its deep blue units and white worktops, is pleasing on the eye and practical, thanks to its modern amenities.
Stepping out onto the deck, you’re presented with inspiring views of the loch and the surrounding hills. This is the perfect place to sit out with a book and a morning coffee, listening to the sounds of the water as you start the day in style. When the loch is high, the water gently laps at the shore right under the glass-fronted deck, which makes it feel as if you’re almost relaxing in the loch. Furthermore, guests staying at Willow Cabin are also allowed access to a glass-fronted barrel sauna that is available at an added cost.
When bedtime beckons, the cabin has four quaint and cosy bedrooms. There are two super-king rooms with yet more giant windows so you can wake up and take your cup of tea in bed whilst enjoying the view. There are also two bunk rooms, which are ideal for kids.
If you’re looking for an active break, then there are lots of things to do in the area. You could explore the loch on a canoe or cycle around its banks on bikes. The owners can help arrange both of these activities for you, so enquire when booking. The loch is also great for fishing and avid twitchers will be able to bird watch to their heart’s content.
If you wish to venture out a bit further then you’re a short drive from Callander, a bustling tourist town situated on the River Teith. This is a great spot for eating and drinking and also has some nice shops. It also forms the gateway to the Highlands and an entry point to the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park. The National Park is awash with incredible scenery and fabulous walking routes, so be sure to bring your hiking boots!

Leave a reviewWillow Cabin is in the most stunning location. Facing the loch with beautiful views of the mountains and the changing light over the water through the huge windows. Walking into the cabin for the first time takes your breath away. It was so special to drive along the semi-private road through the woods to the cabin and I could easily get used to that. Our host always replied in good time to our messages / questions and helped out with a high-chair for the baby. We were 8 adults (2 couples and four singles) and a baby. The living area was a good size for us all and the dining table easily accommodated all of us. The deck is lovely if the weather is good. There are good walks from the house - for example just keep going along the road and it is spectacular - plus other hikes close by that can be reached by car. We loved our day outing to Loch Katrine where we hired bikes for the most amazing ride around the loch. I've not rated 5 stars as we felt it was not entirely equipped for 8 adults in wet weather. No tumble dryer made it hard to get towels and clothes dry so we had things hanging everywhere. The bathrooms have everything but are tiny so you can't really dry the towels in them. There is no storage space in the bedrooms except under the beds so you need to be ok with living out of your suitcase for the duration. With 8 of us this meant we had some luggage in the living area and some out in the passage ways. I feel there are many clever storage solutions that could be considered. The kitchen has no dishwasher which is quite a challenge for cleaning dishes and cookware for 8 adults. There is also no microwave for quick heating of milk etc. The counter space is limited. We had hoped to use the sauna but this was broken during our stay so it was disappointing. We also felt the canoes should be included in the price of the accommodation. I would definitely consider returning as it is a very special place, just not with 8 adults.
