In the heart of a remote and picturesque Welsh valley, Highbrook Cottage is a truly unique freestanding cottage which dates back to the 16th Century, now lovingly renovated and available as a self-catering space for anybody looking to spend time in the intense beauty of the Welsh wilderness. The cottage is located on a vast swathe of land which is used for both low-impact sheep farming and low-intervention wine production. It comfortably sleeps up to four guests between two bedrooms and is the ultimate destination for couples, families and friends whose idea of the perfect mini-break or holiday involves escape from the bustle of urban life, and immersion in a beautiful, isolated valley landscape with dark skies and plunging valleys.
The cottage itself takes inspiration from the rolling hills around, with a subtle interior decor which recalls farmhouse style rural spaces and a subtle, elegant aesthetic throughout. The cottage's historic charm has been retained, while judicious contemporary touches have made it a comfortable and luxurious place to live, with a blend of neutral colours and furnishings as well as bright and exotic touches.
The kitchen-cum-dining room is elegant and functional, a real delight to cook and eat in, while both of the bedrooms are welcoming and light-filled, with ultra-comfy beds, traditional Welsh woven blankets and far-reaching views out over the heather-rich valley. The living room has ample comfortable furniture, making it a great place to spend the evening after the sun has gone down, either gathered around the wood-burning stove, chatting over a bottle of wine or snuggled down watching a movie. Everything about the cottage has been painstakingly designed and built with guest pleasure in mind, from the charcoal barbecue outside to the manicured gardens which are accessed directly from the French doors in the kitchen-diner.
Being located in the foothills of Radnor Forest, Highbrook Cottage is a walker's paradise. Early birds can be out in the dramatic scenery with the sunrise, while more sedentary guests are likely to enjoy a leisurely breakfast of local seasonal ingredients before striking out. Despite its fab location, Highbrook Cottage is pleasingly close to cultural amenities, and you're by no means cut off. Within a ten minute drive, guests can be at The Harp, an award winning pub celebrated throughout Wales for its good cheer, local ales, and seasonal menu. Equally close, the village of Presteigne is something of a cultural hub, with several festivals, multiple independent shops, and great sourdough pizza at Daphne's. There's no limit of options for outdoors enthusiasts, with a one hour walk which culminates in a waterfall and a stunning hilltop hike with enviable vistas of the Black Mountains.
