Located amidst woodland and meadows near the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park, Cynefin Retreats has three luxury, purpose-built lodges, perfect for families or friends looking for a unique rural backdrop to their holiday.
The lodges have been cleverly designed, using techniques and materials to help them reflect the surrounding landscape while offering privacy and stunning views. A super-king bed in the master bedroom, a hot tub and a freestanding tub in the bathroom are the final luxurious touches, ensuring that you’ll be able to relax in complete comfort.
Each of the lodges has been designed to celebrate indoor-outdoor living. The ground floors are bright and spacious, with plenty of natural light filtering in through the windows and large sliding glass doors that lead onto the decking. On warmer days, open up these doors and let in more of that fresh countryside air and choose between cooking in the well-equipped modern kitchen or on the firepit’s grill outside. On cooler days, snuggle up on the sofa, light up your wood burner and take in the stunning views.
The two spacious bedrooms are upstairs, cosy under vaulted ceilings and both with beautiful views. The master bedroom has a super king-size bed and the second bedroom can be configured as a twin or a second super king. You’ll be greeted with pocket sprung mattresses, feather pillows and duvets and soft Egyptian cotton towels. The family bathroom is located between the two bedrooms with a shower and a luxurious freestanding bathtub, the perfect spot for a bit of me-time after a long walk in the Brecon Beacons.
The outdoor space is just as relaxing and luxurious as the interior, with a spacious, private terrace, a hot tub and Lafuma deckchairs. Pull up a seat at the outdoor dining table and tuck into some treats straight off the grill. In the evenings, the grill doubles as a firepit and everyone can gather around with a glass of something or perhaps some marshmallows and do a bit of stargazing, free of light pollution.
Spend your days wandering through the meadows and woodland of Cynefin, stopping off for a picnic or to read a book in the ‘Secret Willow Garden’. It’s a walker’s haven with a public footpath bordering the estate leading to the hills and the river. This path can take you to Offa’s Dyke and to the Wye Valley Walk nearby. There’s a whole range of outdoor activities on offer that will help you get the most out of the beautiful landscape, from hiking and fell-running to horse riding and canoeing. The picturesque market town of Hay-on-Wye is just a few miles down the road, famous for its annual festival of literature and arts and well worth a visit at any time of the year.

We absolutely adored our stay at Cynefin Lodges for our Minimoon. We booked our stay very last minute, but everything was turned around and impeccably clean for us ready for our arrival. This was very easy and straight forward to do, once paid you have all the details you need to check in. We were in awe from the moment we arrived to the moment we left, everything we could possibly need was available to us from glasses to celebrate our wedding to hot tub to unwind after a long day walking. The location is great too, with so much available near by to the location with short drives to fantastic attractions. We drove to the show caves, walked up the hills locally, enjoyed so much amazing food at the Bridge (short walk) and Black Lion in Hay-on-Wye (long walk/taxi). We have loved it so much we plan to bring our girls with us next time to enjoy the lovely kids nook under the stairs. Thank you Lorna & Ryan, for the amazing stay. We will be back. Mr & Mrs Clifton
