Situated in the heart of the South Walney Nature Reserve in Cumbria, this unique property is surrounded by stunning scenery and is a truly memorable getaway for families and groups of friends. As well as boasting far-reaching views across Morecambe Bay, South Walney is home to a wonderful diversity of wildlife, including rare birds and a grey seal colony, making Lighthouse Cottage a perfect haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. The cottage is just as impressive as the surroundings, finished to an extremely high standard with luxurious furnishings, stylish décor and lots of personal touches that make the stay extra special.
The ground floor is where you’ll find the three bedrooms and family bathroom. The master bedroom has a king size bed, mounted TV and an ensuite bathroom with a walk-in shower. The second bedroom also has a king-size bed and wall-mounted TV, whilst the third has twins that can be configured as a double on request. The spacious family bathroom has a large shower over a bath and a utility room with a washing machine and dryer.
Upstairs is the open-plan living space. With lots of comfy seating, a TV and a log burner to keep you warm and cosy in the colder months, it makes a lovely spot to relax and recharge after a day out exploring. It’s also a great place to enjoy the wonderful views of the surroundings, with binoculars and birdwatching guidebooks provided by the thoughtful hosts.
The modern kitchen is fully equipped with high-end appliances and all the equipment and amenities you could wish for, including a Nespresso coffee machine for an instant brew. Guests can share meals, reminisce on their days or plan their next outing around the dining table.
Outside the property is a delightful courtyard, with lots of outdoor furniture where you can dine al fresco or have a drink and enjoy one of the breathtaking sunsets. There is also ample parking for several cars.
South Walney Nature Reserve is a shingle island on the southern tip of Cumbria, one of the finest birdwatching sites in the UK. Eider ducks, sandwich turns, oystercatchers and wildfowl are just some of the magnificent birds that can be spotted at different times of the year, and you might even catch a glimpse of the grey seals swimming in the sea at high tide. There are a myriad of footpaths and trails to explore across the dunes and along the coast if you fancy stretching your legs.
The nearest town is Barrow-in-Furness, just a short drive away. The town has historic buildings, delightful parks and beaches, and an array of shops pubs, and eateries to visit. Keen golfers can also tee off at the Furness Golf Course. Barrow is just a stone’s throw away from the Lake District, famous for its rugged fell mountains, picturesque lakes and charming market towns.
