Nestled in the quaint village of Black Torrington in rural mid-Devon, this marvellous treehouse offers a fabulous bolthole that makes the most of its beautiful setting. Drawing on its forest surroundings, the treehouse was constructed from locally sourced timber, with the furnishings similarly drawing on a wooden theme. With cosy furniture – including two expansive sofas – and a wood burner, this property is a welcoming home away from home. After a long day exploring the marvellous Devon countryside, you and your loved ones can retire back to the treehouse and enjoy an indulgent dip in the fantastic hot tub, which brings a slice of luxury to your stay. Hop in with a glass of bubbles and take in the amazing views.
This treehouse is a peaceful retreat for family and friends alike, accommodating up to four guests across two spacious bedrooms and one bathroom. With an array of sleeping options – either two super king-size beds or one super king-size and two single beds – the space is easily adaptable, with both bedrooms finished with French windows spilling out onto the balcony for gorgeous, panoramic countryside views. The bedrooms are characterised by wooden furnishings, including oak bedframes merging with the treehouse theme.
A homely, rustic space with wooden floorboards and a vast wooden table, the kitchen offers everything needed to rustle up an evening meal, including an oven, a microwave, a hob and extractor fan, a fridge-freezer and a coffee machine for a morning beverage. The countertops are similarly designed to incorporate the forest theme, referencing the copper beech trees on site. Meanwhile, the living room is the heart of the home, with two cosy, plush sofas, a coffee table and a rug for a traditional countryside feel.
Tucked away in Devon, Black Torrington is a quaint countryside village in an idyllic location. Inundated with gorgeous natural hotspots, guests can enjoy a trip to Roadford Lake or Tamar Lakes, both equally stunning local reservoirs offering water sports including kayaking, sailing and windsurfing. The accompanying lakeside trails are also perfect for leisurely walks, cycling or even a picnic spot.
Elsewhere, the famous Dartmoor National Park sits close by, offering an expansive area of moorland offering breathtaking views, dramatic landscapes and even ancient ruins. The Museum of Dartmoor Life is an ideal trip for learning more about the heritage and culture of the locality, providing interactive exhibits fit for all the family, whilst the English Heritage site of Okehampton Castle offers an exciting, immersive trip back in time.

Leave a reviewWe had the most amazing experience. The hosts were very friendly and went the extra mile. The treehouse is perfect, very large and in a lovely setting. The log fire burner was very cosey and the place had every amenity required. I would recommend for families, friends and couples

What an idyllic location for a perfect few days away from it all, coupled with the warm welcome and kindness from hosts Ray and Ann. The Treehouse is beautifully equipped with the bonus of the hot tub in the most perfect spot. We were made so welcome and encouraged to explore the surrounding woodland with stunning river walks. It was an added bonus to cosy up at night with the log burner (always well stocked with extra wood) and relax - always with the option to play a game or start a jigsaw provided in the hallway. I would not hesitate to recommend the Treehouse, it was a pure moment of escapism.

Fantastic stay, really peaceful and quiet. A perfect place to unwind and relax. Enjoyed watching the wildlife from the lounge windows eating the nuts and seeds. Also enjoyed unwinding in front of the log burner with a glass of wine or two. Didn't use the hot tub because of the weather but it looked nice. The hot tub is in a secluded place behind the treehouse so very quiet. A perfect place to get back to nature. Walks from the treehouse take you out into the countryside. The treehouse has everything you need and is a clean and a very tidy place to stay. Please don't hesitate to book if you are thinking about it! The hosts were very welcoming and made sure we had everything we needed.

We can’t recommend this property enough. It was totally magical. We hadn’t appreciated from the write up what a special spot this was - there’s no one but the B&B for miles and you’re hidden away in ancient woodlands with just the wildlife for company, and the sound of the river below. The treehouse is just stunning. So thoughtfully designed and if possible even beautiful in reality than it is in the photographs. We loved the gorgeous hot tub and firepit, which Ray set up for us so we could enjoy a day out while it warmed up. The kids adored the swings and brilliant zip wire, and we enjoyed just sitting out on the treehouse balconies with a book and a glass of wine. The beds are all so comfy and we really appreciated the thoughtful touches like the cosy throws on the sofas, wood for the stove and stacks of books and board games for quiet evenings. We will definitely be back as soon as we can. It’s our ‘special place’ now. Whether you’re looking for a family adventure or a romantic retreat in the treetops I can tell you you won’t regret booking a stay here.

What can I say about our stay? I think the fact we’re going to be booking again for next summer says it all. Anne and Ray were the most amazing hosts. Anne knew the treehouse was a surprise for our children so played along and walked us around the side of the bed and breakfast saying we were going in around the back, then after a minute, the treehouse appears in n the distance. It is just out of this world. Our children were absolutely speechless when they saw it. The hot tub is so relaxing and the grounds are stunning. We particularly loved how picturesque and peaceful it was and it was amazing how close we were to the wildlife, feeding the birds and squirrels on the wrap around balcony. The river torrent running through the woodland is stunning and the seating areas dotted through the grounds meant you could just sit and appreciate nature and the gorgeous surroundings. My friends have already booked after seeing my videos and pictures and we can’t wait to go back! Thank you Anne and Ray. Emma, Dan and the boys.

What an utterly gorgeous, enchanting hidden gem! Be warned, I'm in love with this place and I think it might show *a bit* in my review! ???? Firstly... Hospitality and kindness... from Ray helping us with bags & kids when we arrived in the dark & pouring rain, to Anne lending their personal cafétiere to their general warmth and helpful suggestions of local activities. Secondly, the Treehouse EXUDES a warmth and that sense of a secret adventure. So much handcrafted woodwork - clearly a labour of love. So much thought has gone into every part & function. Even the books(kids& adults alike)seem carefully curated to spark joy, laughter and relaxation. Thirdly, you're in the woods but not without genuine comfort. You feel cocooned in warmth by the woodburner, and cocooned in comfort when in bed! (they are SO comfortable, & beautifully crafted!). Finally, this place is a must for almost anyone. I can imagine it being a gorgeous romantic woodland getaway as much as it is an enchanting, comfortable forest-esque adventure for our family of 4. I have some access needs, but found that despite the relatively steep path, it's not far at all from the car to the front door so I've managed it easily - as have our kids(age 5&7). Highly, highly recommend this beautiful spot.
