Finzean Estate places a strong emphasis on sustainability both in their treatment of the land and wildlife, and their community. This lovely modern Agritourism Cabin is designed in an eco-friendly manner to merge into the landscape. It would be a wonderful choice for nature loving couples, who are after a romantic retreat in the stunning Aberdeenshire countryside. The cabin may also be a good option for a young family with the sofa bed providing extra accommodation and single adventurers seeking wild walks and excellent cycle routes.
Built with larch cladding, a living roof and huge triple glazed windows, this cabin allows nature to become a part of the interior with 360 degree views. Inside you'll find it deceptively spacious with an open-plan living, kitchen and dining area, a separate bedroom and bathroom.
The living area is warm and welcoming with underfloor 'air source' heating keeping the entire slate floor warm, in addition to the wood burner which makes the plywood design super cosy for chilly nights in. A comfy sofa and soft leather armchair provide a place to chill out and watch a film on the mounted TV, or you might want to just pour yourself a dram and watch through the large windows as the sky changes from moment to moment.
The small fully equipped kitchen area provides everything you'll need to prepare a meal which you can enjoy at the round dining table which seats four on soft leather chairs. An excellent spot for a game of cards too, or just talking late into the night with a bottle of something to share.
When it's time to sleep you'll find a generously sized bedroom with a big comfortable bed decked out with warm duvet and fluffy pillows. This room further showcases a low key elegance and simplicity that makes it particularly relaxing. Sleep deeply with nothing but the sound of nature for company. If an extra bed is needed the sofa pulls out to sleep an additional to in the living area.
Rise in the morning and make use of the fabulous bathroom which has both a large walk-in shower and a deep bathtub depending on your mood.
Make coffee and enjoy breakfast in the cabin, or for a nice luxurious start to the day, wander along the community path to the Finzean Farm Shop which serves an excellent breakfast where you can try some Stornaway black pudding or treat yourself to some proper Scottish pancakes. The farm shop also has an excellent lunch menu that ranges from a simple soup and a sandwich to meat and fish taster plates and a hearty ploughman's, all very reasonably priced.
Finzean is at the heart of Royal Deeside on the eastern edge of the Grampian mountains, providing wonderful walking routes and cycling as well as superb golf courses. You'll find easy access to local events, seasonal highland games and places of historical or cultural interest. There are also a number of impressive castles close by, such as Balmoral, Crathes and Braemar, perfect for a day trip. If you want a more challenging walk then Tom's Cairn has stunning views of the Dee and Feugh valleys. Why not grab a takeaway picnic from the farm shop and make an adventure of it? And for golf lovers there are numerous quality courses within a 20 minute drive. There's a wonderful array of wildlife to see and admire, all living happily in their environments and supported by the estate.
If you're looking for a more sedentary day the local towns of Banchory and Ballater offer some bespoke retail therapy and nourishment. If you're feeling the need for a bit of Scottish entertainment then you'll be glad to know that Balmoral has a distillery, the Royal Lochnagar, which does guided tours. Slightly further afield the world famous Fife Arms Hotel in Braemar is well worth a visit too.
