Tucked away in the hills in the northwest of Skye, The West Nest is the perfect spot to unplug and reconnect with the outdoors. Surrounded by the island’s rugged natural beauty, the simplicity of the minimalist, modern interior complements the landscape. This pretty holiday cottage enjoys beautiful sea views and sleeps up to four guests.

The interior has been styled in a contemporary, minimalist way but with a big comfy sofa in front of a wood burner and luxurious bedding that creates a warm and welcoming atmosphere. There is a west-facing living and dining room where you can sit and have dinner while watching the sunset over the sea. Or, throw a few logs in the log burner and put your feet up after a busy day exploring the island. There’s also access to an outside decking area from this room which makes the most of those sea views and has a fire pit and some seating.

There is a well-equipped kitchen which has also been carefully furnished with the fittings and cupboards in dark colours complementing the natural tones of the wood of the work surfaces. You’ll find all the equipment you’ll need, including an induction hob. There’s also a boot room, perfect for any wet and muddy shoes and coats and the rest of your outdoor gear.

There are two double bedrooms, both with luxurious king-size beds. These are relaxing spaces with warm lighting and crisp fresh bedding to sink into. The master bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and there’s also a shower room for the use of the second bedroom.

The Isle of Skye is a haven for those who love the outdoors and those looking to reconnect with nature. In the area around The West Nest, there’s plenty to do, from walking out to Neist Point Lighthouse on the most westerly point of Skye, to a day out at Coral Beach, to exploring Dunvegan Castle and Gardens. The West Nest is also next door to Skye Weavers, who literally choose the wool off the sheep's backs and turn it into luxury textiles, all by pedal power! There are a few of their items throughout the house, and guests are encouraged to give them a visit and see the service that they offer.

A little further afield and you could tackle the walk up to the Old Man of Storr which will reward you with some spectacular views. Or, brave the crystal waters of the Fairy Pools in Glenn Brittle which are popular for wild swimming. There are two whisky distilleries on Skye, Talisker and Torabhaig, both of which you can visit, and some wonderful restaurants, such as the award-winning Three Chimneys.

We have just returned from a week-long trip to Skye staying at Gordon's superlative West Nest. The moment we walked in and saw the view from the dining room window was emotional, we had been expecting a special outlook but this really took our breath away. And the view changed throughout the week, there was always something new to marvel at, be it red deer running across the opposite hill side (bring your binoculars, they were never so much used and appreciated), a huge liner crossing Loch Pooltiel, the Outer Hebrides levitating through the sea mist or the rain blowing in and out again. Magical. Gordon, as everyone else has said, was the perfect remote host, reachable in minutes and full of kindness and humour but never overstepping. We loved him. The house itself is really top-end. It has everything you need and a fair amount of fun extras we'll leave you to discover (thank you Gordon). We had the atmospheric wood burner going almost every night and the kitchen was perfectly stocked for a week of cooking in. We felt welcomed and appreciated as guests and loved everything about it in return. If you are wondering whether to book, just do it, it's a once in a lifetime experience to be in such amazing surroundings (the stunning isle of Skye) and in the lap of luxury to enjoy it all the more. All the wildlife came out to play too, fortunately for us, we saw golden eagles in Glendale several times, a white tailed eagle and numerous seals outside the Three Chimneys and again at Dunvegan and two Minke whales from the cliff top above Kilt Rock. Not to mention all of the seabirds imaginable at Neist Point. We will remember this week with such joy and appreciation, Skye and especially the West Nest were so much better than we had dared hope. Just perfection all round.

The West Nest is a delightful cottage in a stunning setting. As you can see from the photos it has a Scandinavian feel to it, it's certainly very 'hygge' in the finish and soft furnishing. I didn't need or want for anything during my stay. Every time I thought I'd need to head out to pick up something, there it was in another cupboard or draw. An awful lot of thought has gone into making visitors welcome. Despite being under the weather for most of my stay there was something strangely satisfying watching the wild (and I mean wild) weather roar passed the window with the log fire crackling away. There are local shops in Glendale and Dunvegan which are exceedingly well stocked for such small places, however, beyond that it a minimum of 30-45 min drive to a supermarket so it's better to arrive well stocked with provisions. That said, any drive, anywhere, on the Isle of Skye is spectacular. Gordon is a very attentive host, he is quick to respond and nothing is too much of an issue. His communications contain all that you'd need to enjoy your stay. I can't recommend this property highly enough. I'll certainly be looking at a return visit next year.

Superb Scandi style cozy home. The owner has thought of everything you might need. Large windows to enjoy the fabulous views from, and incoming weather! First rate responses to queries. Highly recommend, you won’t be disappointed.

We had a fabulous 4 night stay late March, a stunning location in Glendale and the house is wonderful, great quality throughout. Gordon is easy to communicate with and responds very quickly, would highly recommend anyone to stay here. A perfect home rental.
