Cuillrigh couldn’t be better located as a base to discover the wonderful Isle of Skye, just a stone’s throw away from the town of Portree and the loch of the same name. When you’re not out exploring, the modern, larch wood house is the perfect haven to relax, thoughtfully designed to provide the best possible views of the breathtaking Highland surroundings and finished to an exceptionally high standard.
At the heart of the property is the open plan kitchen, living and dining area, which is bathed in natural light by floor-to-ceiling glass windows. The kitchen is well-equipped with modern appliances and all the cookware, utensils and gadgets even the most imaginative chef could wish for. Meals can be enjoyed at the dining table, with dual aspect windows looking out across the loch.
The living area is a lovely spot to relax, with comfy seating and a cosy woodburning stove to take the chill off in the evenings. There’s also a second living space upstairs, complete with writing desk, yoga mat and sofa. Each room has a Smart TV and Sky, as well as a selection of books and board games if you wanted a break from screens.
The home has two bedrooms, one ground floor king size bedroom and one twin room upstairs. Both are fitted with luxurious mattresses and bed linen and have large windows so you can wake up to a glorious view. There are two bathrooms with showers, premium toiletries and fluffy towels for added luxury.
Doors from the ground floor living area lead out to the deck and patio, where guests can dine alfresco whilst soaking up the scenery, or star gaze in the evenings (the island has some of the darkest skies in Europe). You’ll also find a large grassy area to the side of the house, ideal for outdoor exercise or a game of boules. You might even spot an eagle, deer or one of the wild horses that roam the nearby fields.
You’ll be spoilt for choice with things and do and see on the island. The idyllic shores of Loch Portree are a short walk away and a five-minute drive will take you to Portree itself. The largest town on the island, Portree is famous for its colourful harbour and award-winning Aros Centre, which offers exhibitions, cinema, live music, comedy, galleries and more. Portree also boasts a broad selection of interesting shops and fantastic eateries. If you fancy something a bit more active and outdoorsy, you could hike across the heather to the black sands of Camas Ban Beach or ascend the 413m high Ben Tianavaig which sits behind the property.
