Built in 1590 and beautifully restored, this Grade II listed cottage is a stunning example of a period home that combines old school comfort and elegance with modern convenience. The first thing that strikes you about this property is how brilliantly the space has been used. The ground level boasts a huge kitchen decorated in calm pale blues with beautiful wooden floors and furniture. There's a large dining table that seats 10 and a floating counter with a proper farmhouse sink. Perfect for hosting a large dinner party it has two fridges and two dishwashers! This is a lovely light room with doors leading to the pretty walled garden where you can enjoy a morning cup of coffee or something stronger in the afternoon.
There are two lounging areas, one is light-filled and elegant with a pale antique chaise lounge opposite a wood burner and the other is wonderfully cosy with dark red walls, a big brown leather chesterfield and a deep armchair as well as a second wood burner. Curl up next to the fire with a big glass of red and an Agatha Christie (or really any book you fancy).
The cottage is full of great choices and photo-worthy nooks. A wonderful floating oak staircase in the kitchen leads up to one of the lovely bedrooms and you'll be delighted by all five bedrooms that have been finished to an extremely high standard with gorgeous antique furniture and botanical prints on the walls. The bathrooms are also works of art with fantastic tiled floors, two luxurious roll top baths and a beautiful modern walk in shower. Everything in this accommodation smoothly combines comfort, style and warmth.
The garden is very pretty with outdoor seating and a dining table if you fancy eating al fresco, and it backs onto meadows that are perfect for a long ramble in any weather. The setting is peaceful and appears isolated from one side but if you walk around to the front you'll find Beaulieu High Street conveniently placed for all your shopping, pub and restaurant needs.
The New Forest itself is an idyllic place to visit. Founded in 1079 by William the Conquerer its vast green landscape is still home to deer and wild ponies who graze freely. The villages around this area are chocolate box pretty and its worth taking a day to stroll around Beaulieu (there's a fantastic antique car museum) and Burley. For great restaurants and a wider selection of pubs you might like to check out Brockenhurst and Lyndhurst. You can rent a bike in Brockenhurst and explore the deer sanctuary. Exbury Gardens with its steam railway is also a lovely place to visit. If you would like to indulge in a very fancy dinner, try The Elderflower where you'll dine on contemporary English cuisine in a monochrome setting!
