Set amongst the rolling hills of the English and Welsh boarder regions is the Downton Estate. This beautiful part of the world encompasses 5000 acres of rolling hills and gorgeous farmland. Here, guests will find the Stone Barn: an old farm barn that has been restored and repurposed to fantastic effect. The barn is perfectly equipped to serve as a home from home and provides an ideal setting for a quiet couple’s getaway. And with its wonderful location and arresting views of the surrounding countryside, guests will wonder why they hadn't visited sooner.
The Stone Barn has been carefully renovated, all the while retaining the rustic personality that makes this property so unique. This is evident upon viewing the gorgeous stone-brick exterior. The interior has been beautifully decorated using a seamless blend of modern and homespun aesthetic. Timber framing is visible throughout and all mod cons are available. The downstairs houses a modern and spacious, fully equipped kitchen and dining area, and the cosy lounge has two comfortable couches which are centred around a cosy wood burner. Upstairs features a luxurious and roomy double bedroom with king sized bed. The adjoining bathroom features a large walk in shower and a bath. Outside there is a beautiful garden and patio area that benefits from breath-taking views of the surrounding countryside.
The Welsh borders region is famed for its stunning landscapes, and its steep valleys and high hills make it ideal for nature lovers and those who enjoy a good hike. There are number of charming towns and villages dotted throughout the region and the Shropshire Hills is just a few miles north of Downton. The Estate itself overlooks the charming market town of Ludlow. With its 10th Century castle ruins, medieval walls and over 500 listed buildings to its name, Ludlow is a town steeped in history. It is also known as a very lively town, housing various pubs, eateries, and independent shops. This led to Ludlow having been described by Country Life magazine as "the most vibrant small town in England." For those who enjoy a spot of shooting, Downton Gorge drive is famed the world over by enthusiasts. Guests can also visit a dedicated shooting complex in Old Downton Lodge.
