Tucked away on a leafy, suburban street in Edinburgh’s beautiful New Town district is this sophisticated Georgian apartment just minutes from the city’s central streets. Overlooking the gardens of the historic Gayfield Square, it a characterful inner-city retreat for couples and friends.
Located on the ground floor of an original Georgian building, the apartment has its own gated entrance off a peaceful, cobbled street. Dating back as far as the 1820’s, it has exquisite architecture which has been updated with a stylish, boutique vibe. The large drawing room has a timeless period glamour with traditional sash windows overlooking the city views below. Decorative cornice work, antique gilt chairs and a grand fireplace add to the charm, while sleek, designer seats add a chic and contemporary style.
The quaint kitchen has a country-house charm with a central island and wonderful five-burner range cooker. Black granite worktops add a modern sheen alongside the matching dining table which is ideal for evening meals. From here, French doors open out onto a private, back garden that is a delightful oasis from the busting city streets.
The luxury king-size front bedroom has an understated-feel of old world glamour and teams a neutural colour palette with antique mirrors, vintage curtains and a fancy pendant light. The second king-size double bedroom has a cosy feel with rich red curtains adding a sumptuous texture and style. The main bathroom and en-suite shower room also have a sophisticated finish with an array of cream and mocha tiles teamed with an occasional decorative print.
The Merchant’s House apartment is ideally placed for exploring some of Edinburgh’s most famous sights. Princes and George Street are just a 5-10 minute stroll away and have a great selection of designer shops and high-street names. The magnificent Edinburgh Castle can also be explored from here, along with the medieval delights of the Old Town’s royal mile. Closer to the apartment is the trendy area of Broughton Street where there are an interesting array of fashionable restaurants, bars and independent shops. The Playhouse Theatre is also just around the corner and is one of the venues used at the world-renowned Edinburgh International Festival.
