Leave the busy everyday behind and relax in this beautiful cob house surrounded by four acres of wild meadows and gardens. Located in the countryside near Hay-on-Wye, this unique house has a frame of Douglas Fir timbers, a living roof and straw and lime render. Wake up to the sounds of the birds and tuck into a delicious breakfast prepared for you and served whenever you’re ready. Sip a cup of coffee out on the verandah as red kites glide overhead and see if you can spot the Roe Deer flitting in and out of the trees. In the evening, stroll through the orchard and find the shepherd’s hut at the bottom of the meadow where you can stay warm around the fire pit and watch the sun setting over the hills.

Inside, you’ll find a cosy sitting room with a comfy sofa set in front of a wood burning stove. It feels bright and spacious during the day with sunlight streaming through the windows and the skylight. In the evenings, get cosy with a fire going and dig through the selection of books and board games.

In the bedroom next door, you’ll find a luxurious king size bed with a wool mattress, helping you stay cool in the summer and warm in winter. Open the blinds in the morning and sit up in bed with a cup of tea, enjoying the views over the meadows followed by a refreshing shower in the ensuite. You’ll find fluffy towels waiting for you on the radiator and bath robes to snuggle up in.

You’ll have a choice of a full English breakfast, cooked on the Aga in the cottage 30m away or a continental breakfast. Eat at the breakfast bar in the sitting room enjoying the view, or take your breakfast out to the verandah on warmer days. You’ll find a fridge in the sitting room with fresh milk for teas and coffees, along with a coffee machine, kettle, wine glasses and a corkscrew.

If you can tear yourselves away from your cosy hideaway, there’s plenty of exploring to do in the area. The Cob is located in the beautiful Wye Valley on the border between Herefordshire and Wales. Just five miles away, you’ll find the charming town of Hay-on-Wye, famous for its many second-hand bookshops and annual literary festival. There are plenty of walking and cycling trails on the doorstep or you can set off into the Brecon Beacons for some more spectacular scenery. The River Wye is just a mile away and you can pack up a picnic and hire a canoe to enjoy a day out, exploring from the water. There are also some great places to eat, including the Rhydspence Inn, less than two miles away.

What a fantastic place! Tucked away in the Herefordshire countryside, it’s peaceful and beautiful. You can sit outside and only hear the birds and wind. Exactly what we were after. Thank you Lynn & Simon.

A special slice of serenity, constructed in an idyllic setting. Scope for wandering is extended by the cosy shepherd's hut, a garden retreat at your disposal. Lynn and Simon are the most accommodating hosts. We were well impressed with our stay from the lovely presented breakfasts to the skilfully crafted accessories. The Cob is a most interesting renovation, so clean and comfortable. Furthermore, extra touches like naturalistic floral arrangements, edible treats and a hammock in the orchard are all designed to make you feel at home. We believe this reveals a genuine desire to warmly welcome guests to a wonderful relaxing break.

The Cob is a really special place, lovely comfortable accommodation and a peaceful idyllic location. Lynn and Simon are the perfect hosts, friendly and welcoming, and they'd thought of every little detail to make sure we had a great time, like warm throws to keep cosy under while sitting out on the veranda looking out over the meadows and watching the wildlife, and bottles of local cider to welcome us. They also had lots of helpful suggestions for places to walk, visit and eat nearby. Lynn's breakfasts were great and really set us up for the day, fuelling us on a long walk! There are lots of footpaths nearby so it was easy to go for a walk right from The Cob without having to take the car. We would definitely recommend The Cob to anyone looking for a relaxing break in a beautiful setting. We'd love to return one day.
