Brackenrigg Inn is a beautifully refurbished coaching inn dating back to the 18th century. It has a lovely terrace overlooking Ullswater for summer visitors, and a roaring log fire for the colder months. With eight comfortable rooms it would be a lovely getaway for couples, families and friends seeking a relaxing and elegant environment in which to unwind in the heart of the Lake District.
Check in at reception and make your way through to their popular and laid back bar where you can enjoy a welcome drink and say hello to the locals before heading up to explore your room.
The bedrooms are modern and bright, beautifully decorated and you can choose from a single, double, twins or a two-bedroom suite for a family of up to four. The Inn is very dog-friendly and has several rooms that can accommodate a pooch so do book them in and bring them along with your walking boots! All of the rooms have ensuite facilities with some offering a deep bathtub in addition to the shower.
Once you've settled in why not book a table for dinner in the restaurant which boasts a fantastic selection of locally sourced ingredients from meat and veg to cheese and fish? The menu changes seasonally and is always a treat. They even have their own kitchen garden so it couldn't be more local.
If you want to make use of the luxurious facilities, all guests at the inn are welcome to head down the hill to 'Another Place' and make use of the fell-view swimming pool and outdoor hot tub, spa treatments and some lake sport sessions which include paddleboard hire! Another Place also has an additional three restaurants to choose from.
Strap on your walking boots, grab the dog and head out to explore the beautiful fells. You'll be surrounded by stunning scenery and your hosts will be happy to provide some maps for great local walks. If you want to venture a little further afield, Penrith is 15 minutes by car and Keswick 25 minutes.
Head back to the Inn and enjoy a local ale or something from the wine list and peruse their large selection of books, games, art works and of course, maps! After which you can settle in for a feast of nourishing food.
Afterwards you can head back up to your room and watch the Ullswater Steamers from the window before settling into bed for a movie with a cup of tea. And in the morning you can head back down and enjoy a Cumbrian breakfast or a full continental in the relaxed ambience of the restaurant. The hosts highly encourage you to bring your boots, a dog and a good appetite!
