Situated in the picturesque countryside of West Dorset close to Chesil Beach and the Jurassic Coast, this converted artist’s studio is a tranquil stay for couples looking to explore Dorset or creatives looking to escape the noise. Surrounded by wildflowers and full of contemporary art and sculptures by artists Rouwen and Reeve, this really is ideal for your next break from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
When you step inside, you’ll love the stylish interiors and modern mid-century furnishings that are complimented nicely by high ceilings and rustic exposed beams. The Arthouse is also wonderfully spacious considering it’s just a stay for two, with a big social living room where you’ll find a superb olive green velvet sofa where you can relax and watch a movie on the TV. There’s also a turntable and a selection of vinyl for you to browse, so you can put on some of your favourite tunes whilst you unwind. There is also a collection of books, magazines and board games for you to choose from, so you’ve got plenty to keep you entertained during your stay.
If you fancy some real luxury, then head out to your very own private sauna, which offers you the chance to sweat it out whilst gazing out over the garden which is teeming with sculptures and plants. The sauna also has a changing room and an outside shower. When the weather's warm you can also make the most of the garden's alfresco dining spot, should you wish to enjoy meals outside in the fresh Dorset air beneath a parasol. And, when the sun sets, light the firepit and stay cosy and warm as the stars come out above. The informally designed gardens are fabulous and feature wild flowers, perennials, grasses and herbs. The garden is left uncut throughout the winter to provide natural shelter and food sources for wildlife, which creates a beautiful scene.
Back inside, the Arthouse’s charming kitchen is nicely equipped for preparing feasts and the lovely dining area sets the scene for long hearty dinners that stretch into the night.
Just off the kitchen and dining area is the spacious bedroom. Here, a wonderful rug ensures warm toes in the morning and a king size bed guarantees a peaceful night’s sleep. The bedroom also has a door that opens directly onto the gravelled path that overlooks the flower beds and allows lots of natural light to flood into the room during the day. You also have a walk-in wet room with a shower, hand basin and WC for your convenience.
If you wish to venture out and explore, there’s lots to see and do nearby. Head to Bridport, which is a vibrant town bursting with creativity and flavour. Its thriving art scene is showcased in numerous independent galleries, where you can explore contemporary works by local and regional artists. The town also boasts a lively food culture, with eclectic cafés, street food stalls and restaurants offering everything from fresh seafood to global cuisine.
Just a short drive away lies Chesil Beach, a striking 18-mile shingle barrier stretching along the coast. Whether you're uncovering prehistoric treasures or enjoying coastal walks, Dorchester and its surroundings provide a memorable and scenic escape into England’s geological past.
