Situated on the historic Brucefield Estate, with a heritage going back more than 700 years, this elegant former forester's cottage is stylish and sleek, with wonderful views over the woods and fields. You'll be wowed by this lovely property from the moment you set eyes on the yellow and duck egg blue exterior and the wooden planters brimming with herbs and flowers.
The inside is just as stunning as the outside. Light pours in through the many skylights and windows, illuminating the lovely open space and offering far-reaching views from almost every room. A large sofa sits opposite the ceramic wood burner and is the perfect spot to snuggle with a glass of whisky and watch the fire burn.
Armchairs and sofas are covered with cosy sheepskins and woollen tartan blankets, and underfloor heating keeps the cottage warm and toasty whatever the weather.?The kitchen is modern with smart white units and all the high-spec conveniences cooks could possibly need. And the spectacular views from the elongated window make even washing-up a treat - you may spot a glimpse of a red squirrel. There's a stylish wooden dining table with green velvet chairs and peaceful garden views through the floor-to-ceiling windows. Beyond, on the private patio sits a wooden outdoor dining table, the perfect spot for a sunny lunch or dinner on a warm summer evening.
There are two lovely bedrooms to choose from, dressed with crisp linens and offering more spectacular views. The west bedroom is superking size and comes with its own en suite bathroom and dressing room. The second bedroom can be configured as a superking or a twin room. An extra foldup bed is available for children up to 17 yrs and a travel cot can be provided. There is a family bathroom with a level-access walk in shower, pull down seat and sleek chrome grab rails. Please note the walk-in shower does not have wheelchair access.
The cottage is surrounded by spectacular grounds with three beautiful gardens and woods beyond. You are truly immersed in nature at Brucefield and there is an abundance of wildlife. So, pull on the walking boots or pump up the bike tyres, and hit one of the many trails which wind around the estate and look out for red squirrels, the sounds of woodpeckers and owls and at night you’ll have pine martens and bats nearby. Foodies will love to stop for coffee and cake or stock up on supplies at the nearby Saline Shaw Farm Shop.

Leave a reviewWe loved our winter break at Slackbrae. We stayed in November with our three boys aged 6, 3 and 3 months. We went on walks around the estate, built a den and booked a tree planting activity. It was the perfect place for a winter retreat with underfloor heating and gorgeous views from large windows throughout the cottage. The weather was fair, but it was reassuring to hear that they will clear the road into the estate when it snows. Back in the cottage, we took advantage of the excellent baking equipment and baked. We also enjoyed a delicious hot winter picnic from local business, Pollys Pantry, who has prepared sample menus especially for guests of Brucefield Estate and which we had delivered. There were many excellent recommendations for outings and dining in the surrounding area which we also enjoyed, spending 4 days in the area and travelling little further than 15 mins in any direction throughout our stay. Highly recommended for a luxury escape!

Slackbrae was exactly what we were looking for when planning our trip. The conveniences of this rental were all first class and perfect for all our needs. Initially we were having difficulty finding Slackbrae due to problems with our GPS, but we made contact with Victoria, and she made us feel at home and helped us get comfortable with the surrounding area. Two things stand out in our memories of our stay the most. First, the setting of Slackbrae — the beauty of the area, the walking trails, and the quiet made our stay so peaceful. Second, Slackbrae is in an area that is rich in Scottish history and life. We visited castles that were significant in the rich history of the region. Also, we found pubs and restaurants that helped us mingle with small town folks (like us) who were so friendly. So for a place of beauty, friendliness, peacefulness, and yet having extraordinary conveniences, you could never find a better location.

A lovely weekend in very high quality accommodation. Very handy for travel to key attractions in the central belt of Scotland-Stirling, Edinburgh, Culross and the Japanese garden near Dollar. Lovely natural estate with wildlife and some amazing Scots Pines. Right next to the cycle path to Dunfermline. Well worth a visit!!

This cottage absolutely wowed myself and my husband. It was immaculate when we arrived and we were warmly greeted by Dawid who was extremely helpful. Lovely nice touches like bread, jam, milk etc were fantastic. The grounds are beautiful and there's a cycle path minutes from the cottage which is a fantastic walk and very safe. I really couldn't fault this cottage at all and if you're looking for peace, tranquility and a restful break, you won't find better than Slackbrae. We'd have no hesitation in going back and intend to later this year. A wonderful place to stay.

Slackbrae really is as good as it looks! If not better. The Brucefield estate team have done a fantastic job of renovating this old cottage and creating a warm and luxurious experience with such attention to detail. Dawid brilliantly makes sure you have what you need to make your stay enjoyable and Graham’s history and wildlife walking tour of the estate is thoroughly interesting and highly recommended. The Scandinavian influenced interior with its clean and airy space brought a sense of great calm matched by the quiet location. Edinburgh and the Trossachs are an hour away and the Ochil Hills are worth a visit too. We really didn’t want to leave and very much look forward to coming back.
