Experience the magic of Sicily from this charming whitewashed villa. Located on the east coast between the seaside towns of Trapani and Marsala, the spacious pad has a private swimming pool, rooftop terrace and relaxation room equipped with a hot tub and sauna. You'll have no trouble letting your worries slip away when you arrive here, especially when you get a look at those spectacular views.

While away hours poolside, admiring the verdant garden and listening to the chorus of cicadas around you. When you feel your appetite building, whip up lunch in the characterful kitchen – complete with wooden beams and cooling tiled floors – to enjoy alfresco. Prefer to leave the cooking to the pros? Your host is happy to arrange for private chefs to come by and prepare something special.

You're well positioned to discover the best of the island. The closest beach is just a nine-minute drive away, and if you fancy a day trip to Palermo, it's an hour and a half from this villa. Wind your way through the luscious countryside en route, and return home in time to watch the sunset from your rooftop.

Ash-topped Mount Etna rises from the heart of Sicily, lending a fiery flair to this sun-kissed island to the south of Italy. The volcanic terroir is perfect for grape, tomato and olive growing and family-run restaurants make the most of juicy beefsteak tomatoes drenched in olive oil, washed down with a glass of sweet Malvasia or fruity Novello. There are plenty of dining spots to choose from in the buzzing cities of Palermo, Catania and Syracuse. Palermo itself is the capital where you’ll find ancient Byzantine churches, ruined palaces and a 12th-century Cathedral.

The ancient port city of Catania sits in the shadow of Etna and trails lead from here to the summit. Piazzas are filled with restaurants and bars, and the weekly fish market sells the freshest catch of the day. While Syracuse on the Ionian Sea is steeped in Greek myth and legend. Away from the cities, Sicily’s coastline is dotted with villas that have stood for centuries and beaches with turquoise shallows.
