Nestled in the village of Little Bentley in rural Essex, Gooseberry Fool is a delightful retreat for a cosy family holiday. An ancient barn with modern furnishings, this property boasts a home cinema set-up, a library full of books and board games for a relaxing stay inundated with entertainment for adults and children alike. Oozing a Scandinavian feel with its interiors, Gooseberry Fool hosts oranges, blues and greens, creating a calming, family-oriented atmosphere in which to unwind amidst rustic wooden beams.
Sleeping six across three bedrooms, there’s ample space to relax. One bedroom hosts twin beds alongside quirky fairy lights, chalkboards, toys and books for an exciting stay for the little ones. Accompanying toys are comprised of a wooden teepee, a wooden shop and an array of superhero capes for endless fun, with the garden area offering up a willow tunnel and a mud kitchen.
The next bedroom is furnished with a double bed, comprised of fun pink and blue interiors, wall art and a huge repurposed wooden chest of drawers to maximise storage space. The final room is small but cosy, equipped with a double bed, knitted throw, comfy cushions and a rustic chair perfect for an afternoon read.
Downstairs, the living space hosts a gorgeous orange-brown leather sofa, a vintage style green armchair and a sleek grey sofa alongside a wood burner to guarantee a slice of Scandinavian hygge during the winter months. There’s also a hammock, perfect for an afternoon snooze or a peaceful reading session, alongside a projector perfect for setting up a movie night. Open plan, this area spills out into the kitchen and dining area with its rustic wooden surfaces and family-centric wooden table, finished with an impressively sized espresso machine, cafetiere, dishwasher, microwave, mini bar and a wine cellar.
The bathroom is installed with a luxury rain shower for long, hot soaks after a day spent gallivanting on the beach. Luxury toiletries are included, with WiFi found throughout the property.
Closeby in Brightlingsea the open-air pool poses the perfect summer activity, with the Brightlingsea Beach offering up masses of space in which to build sandcastles, sunbathe or read a book. Hollytrees Museum and Colchester Castle Museum hold insight into the local history, as does Natural History Museum Colchester.
