Set in a flower meadow, overlooking a wooded valley in the heart of the Devonshire countryside, these five bespoke shepherd’s huts are beautiful inside and out. The traditional shepherd’s lodge has been given an upgrade by Dittisham Hideaway so as to provide contemporary and chic accommodation that fits in perfectly with the rural surroundings. They have been hand-built by West Country Artisans, experts in their craft and feature large double beds, designer fabrics and even power showers without losing any of their countryside charm.
Step inside and you’ll find the interior surprisingly spacious. These lodges are slightly bigger than the average shepherd’s hut, at 26ft in length, so they can comfortably accommodate two adults. They have been painted and furnished using lighter colours with darker wood accents, opening the space up further.
On arrival you'll find a welcome hamper packed with treats, some tea/coffee and nibbles, bread, butter and jam, plus a complimentary bottle of wine for you to enjoy on a sunny afternoon or cosy winter evening by the fire.
The interiors are open plan with a luxurious king-size bed, accessible from both sides, and Egyptian cotton bed linen. Move through to the lounge area where you can sit back and relax after a busy day in Devon and light the wood-burning stove to keep you cosy. There’s a fully equipped kitchen and a foldaway breakfast bar to provide a bit of dining space. At the end of the hut, you’ll find the generous bathroom, complete with fluffy towels and a power shower.
One of the shepherd’s lodges has an adjoining Mini Shepherd’s Hut which contains two sets of bunk beds, suitable for children under the age of 16, so you can bring the whole family along.
Outside, each of the huts has its own private terrace perfectly set up to make the most of the outdoors. There’s a dining area with a barbecue and some furniture, Adirondack loungers, a double hammock and a wood-fired spa bath. There’s also a firepit to keep you warm, so you can stay out late into the evening, enjoying marshmallows toasted over the fire as you do a spot of stargazing.
The shepherd’s lodges are ideally positioned for exploring South Devon. The River Dart is nearby so you can stroll along the banks, perhaps making a day of it with a picnic. To the south, you’ll find Dartmouth just a ten-minute drive away and there are plenty of beaches to discover along the coast. To the north, you’ll find Dartmoor National Park with endless opportunities for walking, cycling and even horse riding.
