Tucked away in a quiet spot on a working farm in Mid Wales, this striking grain silo has been carefully restored to provide a cosy escape for couples or solo travellers looking to get away from it all. The original structure has been transformed inside, using recycled wood, metals and salvaged local hardwoods to create a warm, inviting space that blends rustic charm with modern comforts.
Wake up to the sounds of the countryside and views out over the farm and rolling hills beyond. Rustle up some breakfast before heading out on a walk in the Brecon Beacons or exploring the surrounding villages and market towns. After a dip in the hot tub sit out late into the evening, sharing stories around the fire pit and planning the next day’s adventures.
Step inside via the big sheltered porch area which provides a handy spot to leave any muddy boots and a sheltered spot to sit outdoors. There’s a large open-plan living space featuring a well-equipped kitchenette and the beautiful wooden dining table provides the perfect setting for a romantic meal in. The spacious bathroom is just off this main space and features a large shower for a refreshing start to the day.
Head up to the mezzanine level via the staircase and you’ll find a cosy double bed under a sloping ceiling that reaches to the apex of the grain silo. A skylight above means you can lie in bed and look up at the stars on clear nights and it also lets in some relaxing natural light during the day. There’s a cosy reading nook and a porthole window offers lovely views over the farm.
You might simply want to relax in your cosy hideaway, however, there’s plenty to see if you do fancy exploring. Start with a trip to the nearby Llanwrtyd Wells, the smallest town in Britain, and home to several friendly pubs serving up great food. If you’re looking for some outdoor activities, the spectacular Elan Valley with its dams and reservoirs is a short drive away. It’s also not far to the beautiful Brecon Beacons where you’ll find endless trails to explore. Hike up to the top of Pen-y-Fan, the highest peak in the area, for breathtaking views.
