With panoramic windows framing a jaw-dropping view over the Bay of Palermo in one direction and the Madonie Mountains tumbling towards the sea in the other, this exceptional villa offers a relaxing retreat for the whole family.

It's furnished with a palette of grey, browns and blues that tie in perfectly with the landscape outside, creating a sleek and stylish space that's gloriously uncluttered. This contemporary style continues from the open-plan living area to the bedrooms, where white walls and minimal additional furniture mean that the views take centre stage.

We imagine you'll spend long summer days relaxing out on the terrace, with breathtaking views whichever way you decide to orientate your sun lounger. Cool off in the pool, which is long enough for lengths, while a barbecue provides the tools you need to cook up alfresco family feasts at home.

If you do fancy a change of scenery, however, then the mysterious city of Palermo is a little over an hour west of the villa, while the historic seaside town of Cefalù is just over twenty minutes away – it's home to fascinating history and one of the best beaches on the island.

Ash-topped Mount Etna rises from the heart of Sicily, lending a fiery flair to this sun-kissed island to the south of Italy. The volcanic terroir is perfect for grape, tomato and olive growing and family-run restaurants make the most of juicy beefsteak tomatoes drenched in olive oil, washed down with a glass of sweet Malvasia or fruity Novello. There are plenty of dining spots to choose from in the buzzing cities of Palermo, Catania and Syracuse.

Palermo itself is the capital where you’ll find ancient Byzantine churches, ruined palaces and a 12th-century Cathedral. The ancient port city of Catania sits in the shadow of Etna and trails lead from here to the summit. Piazzas are filled with restaurants and bars, and the weekly fish market sells the freshest catch of the day. While Syracuse on the Ionian Sea is steeped in Greek myth and legend. Away from the cities, Sicily’s coastline is dotted with villas that have stood for centuries and beaches with turquoise shallows.
