Make yourself at home on Sicily’s northern coast at The Olive Tree, found in the quiet village of Mazzaforno near popular Cefalù. Accommodating up to six guests, this traditional Sicilian home sits in its own garden with seating area, offering plenty of privacy and making a great base for getting out and about in this stunning region.
In the shade of olive trees, the house has been styled with great attention to detail by the architect owners. Walls of richly patterned tiles and antique furnishings complement more modern pieces across the two floors.
You can enter the kitchen directly from the garden – there is an oven, fridge and dishwasher. If you wish, The Olive Tree can also arrange for a cook to rustle up some Sicilian specialities.
Also downstairs, there’s a double bedroom and a bathroom with shower. The living area is a cosy spot to relax in – you have satellite TV and free Wi-Fi, and there’s room for an extra bed here.
The master bedroom is upstairs, again with a private bathroom. A small, separate room on this floor can be used as a dressing room, or can accommodate another single bed. It’s all about comfort at The Olive Tree, so the whole place is air-conditioned too.
Pretty beaches, rugged coves and green hills make Mazzaforno a picturesque place to spend your time, while nearby Cefalù is the one to head to for the local area’s main attractions. These include its striking twin-towered cathedral which houses mosaics created by Byzantine artists. The town attracts plenty of visitors, so there is no shortage of fine restaurants and bars, and its position overlooking the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea ensures the views are first-rate. In summer, you can take a boat trip to the volcano-laden – and beautiful – Aeolian Islands.
The Sicilian capital, Palermo, is around an hour’s drive away. A vibrant city packed with architectural gems, don’t miss its 12th-century cathedral, royal palace or the vast, neo-classical opera house, Teatro Massimo. A trip west of the city could take you to Solunto, an excavated site of Roman ruins with stunning views back towards town.
Sicily is just waiting to be explored. The Olive Tree is perfectly located to discover all of this and a whole lot more.
