This stunning Victorian mansion house, close to the beautiful Jurassic Coast, is a magnificent space for gatherings of family and friends. Lorton House is full of period features, from sash windows to original fireplaces, it is beautifully furnished and styled, and contains all the modern conveniences to provide a luxurious experience for guests.
Enter into the spacious entrance hall and admire the stained-glass windows and beautiful tiled floor before heading into one of three reception rooms to chill out after the long journey. Sink into the cream sofas and bask in the sunlight as it pours through the magnificent bay windows. On chilly afternoons, light the open fire and kick back with a good book or play board games with the family.
The traditional farmhouse-style kitchen is full of character, from the classic Aga range with four separate ovens to the double Belfast-style sink. At the heart of the room is a large wooden table ready to be piled with plates of eggs, bacon and large pots of tea for lengthy breakfasts which soon turn into brunch.
For more formal meals, there is an additional dining room where guests can gather and enjoy views through French Doors to the lovely patio area outside. The patio is fully furnished and, with extensive views of the gardens, is the ideal place to spend summer days relaxing in the sunshine, drink in hand, lunch sizzling on the BBQ. For after-hours fun, head to the vaulted cellar where guests will find a full-sized billiards table.
When it's time for bed, head to one of the eight bedrooms, six are ensuite, which boast beautiful vintage furniture, including hardwood beds, gorgeous wallpaper, bay windows and fabulous views across the gardens. Of the eight bedrooms, five are doubles and three are twins. One of the double bedrooms sits on the ground floor for added convenience.
The acres of spectacular landscaped grounds are the perfect playground for young and old. Whether it's slow after-dinner strolls, hide and seek with the little ones or games of cricket on balmy Sunday afternoons, this remarkable space will leave memories which will last a lifetime.
The local area has much to offer visitors, including hikes, bike rides and sea dips. Weymouth beach is a short drive away and a day rock pooling and sand castle building can be finished with a trip to one of the great seafood restaurants. Rockfish in Weymouth comes well-recommended.
