Enjoy a relaxing break in the marvellous East Lothian countryside at Leuchie Walled Garden. This contemporary, luxurious holiday home sleeps up to 12 guests and is close to the popular seaside resort of North Berwick. With the thriving city of Edinburgh just 25 miles away, it makes it the perfect choice for your next Scottish group getaway. Lovingly refurbished in 2020, Leuchie (pronounced 'Lou-ki') Walled Garden offers a blend of modern and classical and is ideal for a family occasion, a couple's retreat, or even a wedding or business event.
The mid-Century modern house is located in its own private and secluded five acre walled garden, meaning you have plenty of space outside to spread out and enjoy the sunshine when the weather is warm. The property's main rooms feature large windows that overlook this garden, ensuring the property has lovely views and is filled with plenty of natural light.
The modern building has a cool sixties feel, with carefully chosen furnishings and design flourishes throughout. The accommodation, which is all on one level, features a unique collection of antique furniture and 18th Century family paintings that have been collected by the Dalrymple family.
The large living room features comfy sofas that sit around a working fireplace. This is a lovely spot to sit with a glass of wine, socialising around the fireplace with your family & friends. This space also has a door that takes you out onto the patio garden. The brand new kitchen/breakfast room has enough seating for 12, ensuring you have space to all sit and enjoy a casual breakfast together. For more formal dinner times, venture into the dining room that has a large table that also seats 12 in comfort.
The kitchen and service kitchen have a range cooker, aga and an oven, as well as two fridges, two dishwashers, a washing machine and a tumble dryer. So you really do have everything you need to enjoy your stay. The property also has a TV room with a large screen, meaning you can enjoy movie nights in in style.
When it comes to the bedrooms, the property has six on offer, all of which have been individually decorated blending mid-century and traditional details with a deep colour palette and modern accents. These rooms are stylish and unique, and most importantly, they're all super-comfy! There are three superking rooms, two king-size rooms and one twin bedroom. The master suite has an ensuite bathroom and separate shower room, whilst the Garden Suite king-size room also has an ensuite bathroom with shower. Another king-size double room has an ensuite shower with a wet room, whilst the others all have adjacent shower rooms.
The house is eco-friendly, making use of modern environmental technology with ground source heating and superb insulation. And there are also three open fires and a plentiful supply of logs from the surrounding woods.
As the name suggests, the most striking feature of this property is the magnificent walled garden. Built 200 years ago by Napoleonic prisoners of war, the garden encloses the house and acts as a wonderful sun trap in summer. You have total privacy and can relax on the lawn, play tennis on the newly refurbished court or outdoor games such as croquet or boules. Indoors you'll find two games rooms with snooker table, dart board and table tennis.
Guests can also pick flowers, fruit and vegetables when in season from the kitchen garden. There is even a two hole pitching range for enthusiastic golfers.
This house sits within 60 acres of 18th Century landscaped grounds which guests are welcome to explore. In February, the woods are a filled with snowdrops and aconites, and come spring the drive is yellow with daffodils and pink cherry blossom.
If you wish to venture further afield then you'll be pleased to know that you're only a short drive from the seaside and golfing town of North Berwick. This town has an array of fab restaurants on offer and is often voted the best place to live in Scotland. You are also close to several sandy beaches including Seacliffe which regularly features in Britain’s best beaches, Yellowcraig and the East and West Bays in North Berwick. There are plenty of amazing golf courses nearby too, so don't forget to bring your clubs.
Edinburgh is also just 35 minutes by hourly electric train service from North Berwick. Day trips to the city are a must as you soak up all that this thriving, cultural hub has to offer, from amazing historic locations, to delightful pubs and restaurants, Edinburgh is a city that is sure to please.

Leave a reviewSimply enchanting, both within and without, the house and walled garden is to find yourself luxuriously transported between the ages. The surrounding area is a delight to explore but it is the home that keeps calling you back, to recline before open fires, tinkle the ivories by the piano and cook up a feast in not one but two kitchens that have everything the budding chef could ask for. Hew and his family couldn't have been more accommodating and welcoming. A more blissful retreat I cannot recall. Go on treat yourself, you deserve it.

We celebrated an intimate family wedding at Leuchie Walled Garden and it was perfect! The gardens are stunning, the house spacious and very comfortable and with the location just outside of North Berwick, it was the ideal place that met all our needs. We enjoyed the beautiful kitchen which is extremely well equipped, and on the cool evenings sat by a roaring fire in the drawing room. Just wonderful! Our hosts were gracious, welcoming and thought of everything to make our stay memorable. Leuchie Walled Garden exceeded all expectations and was instrumental in the creation of wonderful memories of a very special family occasion.

Even though the photos are excellent, they do not do this gorgeous property full justice. It is stunning. The house is flooded with light and views of the lovely garden are everywhere. The interior is very stylish and super cosy, with comfy beds and lovely bathrooms. A beautifully blend of the history of the house/family with new and modern comforts. The kitchen is fabulously well equipped , and there is plenty of space for gathering or for finding solitude. Everything is top quality, with lots of lovely details ; toiletries, lovely welcome hamper, fresh produce from the garden etc. A tranquil and peaceful setting - totally undisturbed. We walked, visited the glorious beaches, the air museum, the Seabird center and played all games provided. A truly lovely place - could not recommend it more!

Leuchie Walled Garden is out of this world and I can't wait to come back - it's perfect for a big family holiday or with a group of friends for a long weekend. Every little detail is beautiful and it's incredibly comfortable and modern while giving a really thoughtful nod to history of the house and family. We stayed as a group of friends over a long weekend and visited the beach nearby, took a boat trip out to Bass Rock and to go fishing. The kitchen was the hub for our weekend but there's also an epic dining room and the option to eat out if the weather's nice. A games room, tons of cosy reading corners and the most stunning garden make this place such a perfect retreat from the world. Couldn't recommend it more.

This is one of the most amazing places we have stayed. Leuchie Walled Garden is truly unique and somewhere you will want to make an annual holiday destination. The house is incredibly comfortable and everywhere you look there is something beautiful or interesting to see. We visited North Berwick for the day to enjoy delicious fish and chips on the beach before jumping on a boat trip tour round the historic Bass Rock. The situation within the Walled Garden is incomparable and we could not recommend it more.
