Grand, luxurious barn in Norfolk with huge open spaces, modern amenities, gorgeous views and big gardens.
Indigo Barn is listed in affiliation with Rural Retreats.
Surrounded by the Holkham estate, Indigo Barn sits on a chalk hill on the edge of the Stiffkey Valley, affording you unique, wide-ranging views across the rolling pasture and onwards towards chalk ridges that run parallel to the North Norfolk coastline. The location will hold a special appeal to nature lovers, who can enjoy watching migrating flocks of birds or the hares and deer that wander in the neighbouring fields. Only a short drive away, you will find Wells-next-the-Sea and the Area of Natural Beauty that protects much of the nearby coastline.
Combining the modern with the unique and the timeless, Indigo Barn has been lovingly curated to offer its guests a window to the wonderful Norfolk landscape, in a bespoke, luxurious surrounding. Throughout you will find examples of local artisan craft, bringing a tactile, crafted authenticity to the experience. Wonderful sunsets and sunrises can be enjoyed from this, your own quiet corner of Norfolk. Once inside Indigo Barn, you immediately begin to appreciate the efforts that the owner has made in creating unique and inspiring spaces, where you can enjoy entertaining family and friends in style and comfort. It has a generous, open plan kitchen with Aga, huge living edge dining table, central fireplace, sitting room and a second sitting area that offers fantastic views. This area forms the hub of the house and it is here that all can gather and plan the day ahead (or to celebrate the day that has been!). This area is also seamlessly connected to the large enclosed garden via large bi-fold doors that link up the room to the outside dining, bar area and the fire pit seating that overlooks the valley.
Indigo Barn offers four superbly appointed bedrooms, each with their own character and all providing luxury touches, accompanied by four bespoke bathrooms - no one needs to go without. The master suite provides a super-king bedded room with a separate open plan living space and its own en-suite bathroom, making this area ideal for couples that wish for a little more privacy or for a small family wanting a self contained separate space (with large sofa bed booked upon request). Located on the ground floor, the Suite has direct access to the garden and includes a well appointed kitchen and sofa bed.
Outside, you will have access to the numerous areas that the owner has created in order for groups to gather and relax. Including multiple dining locations (so you should always be able to find the sun!) including a covered bar with gas barbecue, fire pit area with second barbecue and bar. Here in autumn and winter marvel and thousands of Pink-footed Geese whiffling in to land on the nearby fields, or throughout the year soaring raptors, such as Red Kite or Buzzards taking to the thermals so that they can survey all beneath them. Closer to the ground, you will also see patrolling Barn Owls, looking amongst the hedgerows, or a hoovering Kestrel that has just seen movement below. All you need is the time and the inclination to slow down and look.
Apart from the incredible interior design and location, Indigo Barn has also been created with mindfulness and wellbeing central to the experience. To further promote these elements, the owner runs a range of special weekends throughout the year that tap directly into the reasons Norfolk is so special to so many people. Whether it is rolling out a Yoga mat on the patio overlooking the valley, booking a private beauty therapist to get the full use of the onsite treatment room, or a private chef to work the Aga, Indigo Barn will accommodate all.
In the vicinity you find an abundance of great places to eat and experiences to enjoy. Dinner at the Michelin starred Morston Hall or lunch at the village pub in Warham, The Three Horseshoes are just two examples. For takeaways, a trip into Wells-next-the-Sea will reveal two fantastic fish and chips options, at Plattens and at Frenchs. For a more energetic exploration, why not get out on the water with either a Seal trip from Morston or Blakeney, a fishing trip or a nature cruise out to Scolt Head Island Nature Reserve. For landlubbers, a trip to the Norfolk Wildlife Trust reserve at Cley Marshes will appeal, as will the Holkham Estate. Alternatively, try renting E-bikes and roam Norfolk under your own (electric assisted) steam!
