This enchanting building is tucked away in the countryside near Norfolk’s north coast. Originally a small cottage built in 1745 with stables for five horses and two carriages, it was extended about 75 years later to become a folly. In-keeping with the popular architectural style of the early 19th century, towers and castellations were added to give it a grand appearance. The interior has since been converted into a contemporary holiday home sleeping up to nine guests, perfect for family gatherings or trips away with friends.
You’ll find The Folly has just as much personality on the inside as it does on the outside. The walls of the double-height sitting room are covered with an eclectic collection of artwork and the beautiful original wooden beams are still on show. This room invites you to sink into one of the comfy armchairs or sofas and put your feet up after a long walk along the coast. When it’s time to rustle up some dinner, you’ll find everything you need in the spacious open-plan kitchen and dining room which is flooded with natural light with skylights above.
There are also two bedrooms on the ground floor, a cosy double and a triple room, perfect for the kids. These rooms share a bathroom, which also has a washing machine and a dryer, handy for washing any outdoor gear after a day out at the coast. There’s a double room in the tower which was once the hayloft for the stables. The largest bedroom has a luxurious super-king size bed with a freestanding bath at its foot and an ensuite.
The Folly overlooks a beautiful garden with a pond and a grotto and through the trees and from here you can see all the way to the sea at Snettisham. You can step straight out of the kitchen into an enclosed walled garden with a BBQ and outdoor dining furniture, offering the perfect place to dine alfresco and relax with your loved ones. You’ll also find the fabulous hot tub here, tucked away with plenty of privacy. There’s also a flower garden where you can gather around the fire pit, so you can sit out an enjoy the outdoors late into the evening.
The Folly is in the charming village of Ingoldisthorpe and you can wander straight from the front door along footpaths into the sweeping Norfolk countryside. The Sandringham Estate is just a short drive away where you can visit the grand royal residence and explore the gardens and walking trails. The Snettisham Park Farm is a great day out for the family, feeding and learning about the farm animals or you can head out to the coast for a day at the beach. The spectacular Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is just to the north of the house and you’ll find vast sandy beaches, walking trails and even the opportunity to spot some seals.
