Set on a working family farm in the Welsh countryside, Hollow Oak Glamping is home to two hand-crafted cabins under a beautiful oak tree, hundreds of years old. This wonderful tree, with a large hollow bottom, has been witness to much of the farm’s long history. It’s said that Brynffanigl Uchaf has links to a medieval Welsh Lord, Ednefyd Fychan, whose descendants include the Tudors and the farmhouse itself dates back to the 16th century. These days, the cabins provide a peaceful sanctuary for guests, with your only neighbours being the farm animals and a wide array of wildlife. This is the perfect spot to unplug and unwind.
The two cabins were handbuilt by the farmer, who grew up on the farm, and are made from local larch and red cedar. Each is unique and has its own character. Cwt Iâr, or Hen Hut, is affectionately named after the farm’s free-spirited hens who you might encounter busily making their way across the farmyard. Step inside and you’ll be greeted by a cosy interior with underfloor heating. The cabin has an open-plan design, making the most of the space and you’ll find everything you need, including a bespoke kitchen and plenty of storage space. This cabin sleeps up to three guests with a sumptuous double bed and a sofa bed, both with luxurious bed linen.
Cwt Chwaden, or Duck Hut, is slightly larger and can sleep up to four guests. Inside you’ll find a luxurious king size bed and bunk beds in a separate bedroom. Both cabins feature ensuite bathrooms where you’ll find fluffy towels waiting for you on the heated towel rail. They also have private terraces where you can sit out and enjoy the view, perhaps while something is sizzling away on the barbecue. You’ll also find a firepit area down by a stream that flows past the cabin, perfect for toasting some marshmallows in the evenings as the sun sets.
You’re welcome to explore the farm and the farmer and his family are happy to introduce you to the animals, including the prize-winning pedigree Charolais cattle. If you want to venture a little further into North Wales, you’re spoilt for choice. Snowdonia National Park is just half an hour away and there are beaches even closer. Go for a walk with the family around one of the beautiful local lakes, such as Llyn Brenig or Llyn Alwen. Or, head to the sandy beach of Porth Eirias and enjoy a bit of sea air before lunch at Bryn Williams’ seaside bistro. If you’re feeling adventurous, head to the national park to tackle Wales’ tallest mountain, Mount Snowdon and enjoy the spectacular views from the summit.

Leave a reviewThis stay was our first holiday as a family with our baby girl and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience. They had catered for all our needs, even provided us with a travel cot and the small touches were just lovely. We enjoyed every minute, we will definitely be back! Thank you
