This custom-built, lovely black and yellow hut with the iconic bee print across its side, is nestled at the highest point in The Walled Garden of Hawarden Estate. With idyllic views across the working garden and the 18th Century Castle beyond, this hut would be perfect for a couple wanting to reconnect with nature in a fun and romantic setting.
The hut itself is predominantly for sleeping and is uncluttered by a kitchen or living area. Decorated with Indian rugs, framed art on the walls, a small funky electric stove with a kettle on top and a big cosy bed, it's a delightfully thought out space that doesn't feel busy or small like some shepherd's huts.
When it's time to cook you'll be delighted by the private outdoor kitchen that takes alfresco cooking to the next level! No simple grill here – there's a pizza oven, a Big Green Egg and a vast range, all nestled under a wood awning.
The hut also has a covered area to its rear with a fire pit and comfy camping chairs where you can kick back with a book and a beer and enjoy the peace and quiet. There's even a fabulous Welsh-made wood fired sauna and a hot tub where you can unwind with the sounds of nature all around.
The hut is part of a bigger project on the grounds called The Good Life Society, which offers guests the opportunity to throw themselves back into nature in a fun and exciting way. They offer guided lake swims and foraging expeditions alongside more luxurious extras such as private dining curated by the estate chef, Adam Williams, in extraordinary locations down by the lake - it couldn't be more romantic.
If you want to get involved there's a lot to choose from in terms of entertainment. As well as the foraging, you can join a yoga group or sign up for one of the Walled Garden School masterclasses which include baking, cooking, growing, photography, wellness and much more. It's all very immersive and relaxing and the events change week to week.
Hawarden Estate comprises several thousand acres of rolling wood and farmland. Its foundations are ancient, but its outlook is exceptionally modern and it is home to a multi-award winning farm shop and restaurant and Wales’s AA Pub of the Year 2019 - book a table and enjoy and evening of fine wines and excellent locally sourced food!
The Estate is just inside North Wales and within 15 minutes of Chester station, so, despite being very secluded, it is in fact extremely easy to get to. If you want to explore further afield, Hawarden is within comfortable travelling distance of Snowdonia, the North Wales coast, Liverpool and Manchester. If fun, fire, retreat and exploration are your thing – with a healthy dose of luxurious dining and soaking under the stars – this is the place for you.
