Retreat from the outside world and revitalise your soul, at this secret wood cabin on South Wales’ beautiful Heritage coast. Nestled within a lush arboretum in the quaint village of St Donat’s, Hide Wales Walden Lodge is a calming sea view sanctuary. Explore the ancient Tresilian Woods with their fresh, wildflower meadows or the sweeping Glamorgan coast and its untouched, sandy beaches.

The handcrafted wood cabin is a fusion of Welsh and American cultures and brings a flavour of the Frontier to the traditional, British countryside. Blending American transcendentalism with local, Welsh history, it is a melting pot of rich and interesting stories.

Beyond the iconic American porch you’ll find minimalist yet comfy interiors, showcasing understated furnishings and quality, natural materials. Whitewashed wood walls look down on the sleek tiled floors and are joined by classic, patterned glass and Welsh woollen throws. Authentic, local craftwork oozes with the echoes of days gone by and reflects a heartfelt appreciation of a simpler time.

The open-plan living area boasts impressive vaulted ceilings and has a small but well-equipped kitchen with views across the woodland. Light the crackling fire and dine around the vintage table or cwtch up on the cosy sofa and admire the period artwork. On those warm, summer days you can dine alfresco on the porch, admiring the tranquillity of Nature and the spectacular coastal vistas.

For breakfast you can order Croissants that can be delivered to your accommodation in the morning, can be ordered the night before. They will be delivered at your preferred time in a hide bag including four croissants, butter and marmalade, the cost is £6.50.

The master double bedroom is just off the living area and is finished with a plush double bed topped with retro printed blankets. Jugs of fresh flowers add to its sweet, country charm along with the bijoux shuttered windows and muted natural colours. At the top of the stairs is a second double bedroom that has an additional single bunk bed for older children. A large family bathroom makes this your home away from home and is a soothing haven in the heart of the woodland.

While away your days exploring the majestic South Wales scenery, strolling through the mysterious forestry and along the undiscovered Welsh coastline. Enjoy breath-taking cliff-top walks or picnics in the forest, soaking up the wild coastal scenery and fascinating Welsh history. Visit the pretty town of Cowbridge with its independent gift shops or nearby Cardiff with its bustling city centre. Stop off at the fairy-tale Castle Coch or visit the famous Mumbles sea-front, before retreating to your secluded cabin in the heart of the wild, enchanted forest.

Stayed two nights at this wonderful place. Received a very warm welcome off Paula who kindly gave some info on local attractions and the amazing history of the area. Everything was high quality, very clean and with personal touches that made the stay all the more special. Definitely a place to go to relax and unwind and enjoy some peace and quiet. Highly recommended.

Paula was a fantastic host and her recommendations on sights and restaurants in the local area were perfect. Her knowledge on the area and the history behind the properties available is incredible and we were lucky to have found such a place to stay. I would highly recommend the Lodge as a destination due to the atmosphere Paula has created; the feeling of being completely isolated but in a luxurious and cosy setting is a hard one to provide in the UK. Thanks and we will be back again!

We had a wonderful time staying at Walden Lodge. The lodge was perfect and the attention and care taken in creating it was second to none. The owners were absolutely lovely and couldn’t of looked after us any better. The view and surrounding area was wonderful. Would wholeheartedly recommend going there and we will definitly visit again.

Paula could not have been more helpful and accommodating if she tried, a real pleasure to deal with. As for the lodge and location.... perfect, amazing, superb! Life is very busy for us and we needed to get away and find ourselves for a couple of days..... we found the perfect location! Loved every second, it is one of the very few places we have been too that we’d go back to again and again. Just perfect.

Stayed for the weekend to celebrate mine and my partners 5 year anniversary. Paula and her partner we so welcoming, the cabin was immaculate, the attention to detail did not go unnoticed and was so cosy with the log burning fire. Paula would go out of her way to make sure we had everything we needed from wood for the fire to recommendations for places to eat. Can't express how wonderful it was to get lost there for the weekend, can't recommend this lovely place enough! Grab a hot drink and a book next to the fire or take a walk along the coastline, you won't regret it! Hope to be back very soon!
