This wonderful double-fronted cottage, which dates back to 1760, is tucked away up a quiet lane, very close to the port, and would be a lovely holiday home for a family of eight or a group of friends seeking some Cornish delights and fabulous beaches. The interior is beautifully furnished and feels very homely. Books line the shelves, cool art adorns the walls and the aesthetic is comfy, cosy and peaceful.
The open plan kitchen and dining area comes fully equipped, has slate flooring and wooden exposed beams, and there's a large farmhouse table where you can gather to eat, talk and drink, whatever the weather.
The living area is super cosy with cool pink velvet sofas, a large selection of books to read, a TV and a gorgeous old stone fireplace which houses a big woodburner to keep you all toasty on long chilly evenings. It's a great place to snuggle up after a big day out and relax with a good movie and some choice snacks.
When it's time for bed, make your way up the windy staircase where you'll find the first double bedroom, a cute bunk bed room and a twin room. The double has a TV and all three rooms share a good sized family bathroom with a big tub and a shower overhead. Further up the stairs on the top floor you'll find the main bedroom which boasts a super-king size bed, its own TV, an ensuite with shower and some spectacular views (which makes the extra flight of stairs so worth it!). All of the rooms have good mattresses, great bedding and promise a very restful night's sleep.
In the morning make your way back down to the kitchen and fix yourself a hearty breakfast and a big pot of tea. On summer mornings you can head outside to the small and perfectly formed courtyard where you'll find a lovely six seater table, perfect for alfresco dining and taking in that Cornish seaside air. There's a rather fetching pink bench with cushions too, should you fancy reading in the sun. The courtyard is west-facing so is ideal for lunch, or a glass of wine as the sun sets. Out here you'll also find a small shed chock full of beach gear for your convenience. The hosts have provided wetsuits, body boards, fishing nets and other delights. There's also a tumble dryer for end of day towels and a small freezer to pop your fishing haul in!
The nearest beach is Polzeath, which is great for surfing. There's a big car park and lots of restaurants and shops for you to explore, and if you fancy a surfing lesson, head to George's. If you're bringing a pooch this beach only allows them in the winter but there are plenty of other beaches that invite dogs all year round.
For dramatic scenery head to Bedruthan Steps, a stunning beach with very steep steps down the cliff and a National Trust Cafe. Perfect at low tide!
Harlyn Bay is a good choice for a family beach day with easy parking, and food and drink available. It's a bit more protected than other beaches so the waves a smaller.
Remember you're also in an area of culinary delights, so if you fancy a really good meal out you'll be spoilt for choice. And if you like fresh seafood, you're in heaven. Book a table at the The Oystercatcher, or Prawn on the lawn, a restaurant inside a fishmonger's. Or head over to Padstow for the Rick Stein experience!
