Quaint, cosy and utterly charming, this Grade II listed cottage offers groups of up to four persons a memorable stay in a lovely East Sussex village. Located in Alfriston, this home dates all the way back to the 1700s.

On arrival you can get comfy in the snug living room, with its wood-burning Aga stove keeping you toasty and warm. Sink into the claret velvet sofa as the flames flicker, or get comfy in one of the two linen-covered French armchairs, which offer a great place to tuck into a good book or enjoy a glass of wine as you chat the night away.

The cottage has a nicely equipped kitchen with black worktops and lovely green tiles. This calming space has everything you need to whip up delicious feasts during your stay, which you can enjoy together gathered around the farmhouse dining table. This is a lovely spot where you can enjoy big meals that stretch long into the night. The dining area also features traditional black and terracotta chequerboard tiles and a snug velvet armchair.

Stepping outside, the garden has been redesigned and offers a simple courtyard space where you can unwind at the wrought iron table and chairs enjoying an alfresco lunch in the summer sunshine. This space also has a Morso BBQ, so you can grill up some local produce during your stay and there’s also a wood-burner for staying cosy and warm late into the night.

When night does fall, the cottage has two enchanting bedrooms that have also been redesigned and feature original wood floors and hand built and bespoke wardrobe space. The front bedroom has elegant floral wallpaper and a luxurious original brass and cast iron double bed. The second bedroom faces the garden and continues the floral theme and has yet more period features that include vintage Bakelite dimmers, antique three-quarter length mirror and original marble-top French bedside tables.

Alfriston village is a perfect base to explore the South Downs National Park, discover hill climbs, walking paths and cycle trails leading to the Long Man of Wilmington, Friston Forest or the stunning Seven Sisters cliffs. For water-based fun, visit Cuckmere Haven for kayaking, paddleboarding and cycle hire, or try paragliding at Beddingham for an amazing thrill.

Relax with scenic walks along the Cuckmere River or visit Berwick Church to see Bloomsbury group murals. Nearby, explore Eastbourne, Lewes, Glyndebourne and Charleston Farmhouse. With great pubs, fine dining at the Star Inn and Rathfinny, and endless adventures, there’s something for everyone.
